Today we’d like to introduce you to Avery Miller.
Avery, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story begins with another path altogether, and some divine timing that allowed a shift in my career, turning passion into business.
It’s funny how the brain works. Research shows “right brained people” are considered to be more artistic and “left brained people” more analytical. My schooling, degree and career and type-A personality all aligned with the analytical, medical, factual left brained person that I was. In 2016 I received my Masters degree from one of the top Speech Pathology programs in the country and continued on to work as a pediatric SLP, treating feeding and swallowing disorders for 5 years before the moment came that would switch me to the “right brain world”.
In the midst of a pandemic, I was also pregnant with my first child. (What a time to become a mother). I gave birth prematurely to a sweet little girl, and couldn’t risk going to see medically fragile patients and then coming home to my also medically fragile child. Sadly, I made the decision to put a pause on work to protect my daughter.
As God closed one door he literally threw the other open. I had always dabbled in art, and as way to de-stress, and even tried to combine my art with my therapy sessions. When the moment came to step away from my job, I was approached by a friend to paint a live painting at her wedding. I gave it a shot and within days my calendar booked up with live wedding paintings! And thus, my new career began!
What is “live wedding painting”, you ask? Well, it’s now the new, creative wedding entertainment popping up around the world. How it works is, the couple chooses the moment they would like captured in the painting, and I paint live at the wedding for guests to watch as their moment come to life on canvas. I am now the leading, award winning live wedding artist in Austin, Texas, and am so thankful to be a part of the Austin wedding industry and this community!
My new “full time job”, if you even want to call it that, ignites a new passion within me, brings me so much joy to bring joy to others, and really lets me finally be the “right brained” version of me that I was meant to be.
What else should we know about what you do?
As an artist, I specialize in acrylic, live wedding paintings.
My artwork is best known for having a great blend of being abstract yet detailed enough to allow for personalization in the couple’s faces and wedding details.
I am most proud of my reviews from my previous couples, making sure each piece is exactly as they envisioned it!
What sets me apart from others is my ability to engage with guests, while also preforming through painting, making your guests feel comfortable, included, and entertained. (I also love to sneak a little hidden image into my paintings, that is something special to the couple, for them to find later)
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My rapport with my fellow vendors, venues, and my couples. It is of upmost importance to me that I am timely, organized, and communicate well with all involved in the wedding to ensure a smooth wedding day and painting.
