Daily Inspiration: Meet Rebecca LeBlanc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca LeBlanc.

Hi Rebecca, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I think I’ve always been fascinated by how the mind works and its effect on our lives and relationships. Even as a young person, I remember having a deep need to understand myself, truly understand others, and spending a lot of time thinking about how to navigate the challenges I faced at home, at school, or with peers. Growing up as an introvert whose family moved around a bit, I had to face the uncomfortable attention of being “the new kid.” Often my introversion was read as shyness or even worse snobbishness, and when this was conveyed to my parents by a teacher, they were surprised because at home, I was seen as strong-willed and as a performer, singing and dancing around the house. In later moves, even though I was never excited to change towns, schools, or friends, I was able to see the opportunity to reinvent myself and have faith that I would continue to do well in school and make great friends wherever we landed. Looking back now, I realize that even that small example of moving when I was young taught me invaluable lessons about overcoming obstacles and building resilience.

In 2000, when I came to San Marcos for college, I continued my journey of self-improvement, devouring self-help books, embracing therapy, studying Sociology and Psychology, and eagerly sharing gems of wisdom. My continued interest in mental and emotional health eventually led me to the work of some superstar life coaches. The transformative effect of the coaching process just lit me up! When I met a few local coaches in 2015, I began to see coaching as a real possibility for my future.

Then in 2016, while working full-time at a healthcare nonprofit and in need of a creative outlet, I turned a floral arranging hobby into a thriving floral design business, servicing restaurants, bars and events in the Austin area. Over a couple of years of designing, teaching, selling, managing social media, and even presenting on television, the lessons I learned as a creative entrepreneur provided me a firsthand understanding of what my clients go through in their careers and lives and sets me apart as a coach.

In 2018, I made my dream of coaching a reality and launched LeBlanc Life Coaching upon completing my coach training program. My creative business experience inspired me to help women achieve their goals and overcome obstacles like perfectionism, procrastination, people-pleasing, and impostor syndrome. This work is my calling, and I continually work hard to provide more help, more love, more support, more knowledge, and more insight to my clients. They are my WHY!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I would say that my journey has certainly had its bumpy, windy road moments. One big thing is that it took me a long time to find my calling. I spent a while at the beginning of college taking business classes (I always knew I wanted my own business), and then I took Intro to Sociology, and I became completely fascinated. The content that we were learning about and how that knowledge could be used to improve society just lit a fire for me to be doing work that directly helps people. I truly went down a laundry list of ideas for careers and businesses. I could become a Sociology professor or researcher, but when should I go to graduate school? I love music so I moved to New York City and worked in music for a few years. Then I found a good job working for a wonderful health foundation, and I ended up working there for almost ten years. I applied to graduate school to become a therapist, but I decided it wasn’t the right time. Eventually, the creative bug led me to turn a hobby into the floral design business that I grew for three years while still working my full-time job. And as the story goes, I finally found coaching! To be fair, there was no way I was going to be one of those kids who says, “I’m going to be X,” and then takes the fast track to their dream career. I definitely didn’t even know what a life coach was when I was a kid. I’m grateful that I got there eventually and that all those experiences color who I am as a coach today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a life coach, I help guide my clients to overcome their unhelpful thoughts in order to achieve their goals and dreams. I specialize in using a thought work modality to address perfectionism, people-pleasing and impostor syndrome. In a basic sense, this means that I have particular knowledge of and a real heart for working with clients around those particular challenges and that our work together is grounded firstly in awareness of the client’s unhelpful thought patterns and then in the domino effect that has on the client’s feelings, actions, and results. And from that informed and empowered place, my clients then can begin to choose the thoughts, feelings, and actions that will result in the fulfillment of their goals and dreams.

As far as logistics go, I work with most clients via 1 hour weekly or bi-monthly sessions held over the phone, which means my clients can really live anywhere. Working with me always begins with a complimentary 45-minute session that I coined The Sneak Peek. If we decide to continue our work together, I then have my new clients fill out a coaching questionnaire, which in and of itself is very enlightening and helps cement coaching goals and objectives. Scheduling and payments are simple online processes because I know how busy we all are. Client sessions are goal-focused while taking a holistic approach that respects the fact that all areas of a client’s life affect the other areas. And at the end of every session, my client and I agree on 1-3 practices in alignment with their goals that they will work on over the next week. These practices are so critical because at the most, I’m only with them for 1 hour out of their whole week. Of course, I also follow up on these practices at each session as my client’s accountability partner.
