Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiki Marquez-Roman.
Kiki, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Chihuahua, Chih, Mexico and I came to Austin when I got married in 1993. I have two sons who are soccer lovers. We were on the soccer field from elementary school until college.
While my oldest son went to college and my youngest was in high school, I realized that I wanted to do something more.
I have always been interested in the beauty industry and at the time, my skin was very damaged from sun exposure due to always being at the soccer fields. So I decided to start taking classes as an esthetician and learn how to take care of my skin and help other people with the same problem as me. My instructor also recommended me to study cosmetology, which was a more complete profession.
Since that moment, my adventure in the beauty industry began.
I have worked in multicultural beauty salons and a few years ago, I decided to open my own salon in the city of Round Rock, Tx. It was definitely a great experience with a bunch of learning and fun. I recently sold this salon so I can be in the tranquility and calm of my own suite with my lovely customers who have become friends.
My specialty is hair color and I have a certification in curly hair, also I’ve been working in new projects such as an image consultant because it is never too late to start new projects.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
At first, I was ashamed to speak English with my clients.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am passionate about the image of people, I like to advise my clients what is the best for them according to their lifestyle and skin tones, and now I also want to help them not only with hair but also with the way they dress accordingly to their style. Our image is always a non-verbal communication.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My family has always been my biggest support and fan. I had a good mentor Raquel Martinez who taught how to manage the beauty salon.
