Today we’d like to introduce you to Boris Stojanovic.
Hi Boris, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am one of the founders of Extra Mile International. I came into the US as an exchange student and pretty much immediately fell in love with everything that America represents.
I was always enterperneurly-oriented and using that as a recipe for success got me nothing but life of joy and happiness.
My partner Nick and I started our friendship back in 2012, I was an owner operator and Nick was my dispatcher at a small trucking company in Chicago… Both of us were really good at our jobs but we never thought that one day we would have our own trucking company… I went on to work at a larger trucking company as a dispatcher and moved down to Austin, TX. Nick stayed in Chicago and started his own trucking company. Somehow we crossed paths again in 2017 where the company I worked for bought out Nick’s company and we were working together again. After few years, we came up with an idea to create a new company and start from scratch. In 2018, we formed Extra Mile International Inc. my Wife Maya, Nick and I are equal owners. Each of us have substantial experience in the trucking industry which made us feel confident that we would be very successful. With some hard work, many sleepless nights, and many ups and few downs, we were able to grow our fleet from five trucks and three trailers to little over 100 trucks and 150 trailers. Besides our main office in Austin, we have a terminal in Chicago, and we have huge dispatch office overseas in our homeland of Serbia. Our projection for this year is to pass 150 trucks and 200 trailer mark which is a huge step for us considering that we started only few years ago. We would not be able to make all this work without our amazing staff and brave truck drivers.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Trying to convince banks and investors that you are a success story. That the idea you have equals profit was an enormous challenge for banks to overcome. Starting from scratch, creating contacts with equipment sales and being able to finance the same.
Being able to hire people that are knowledgeable but at the same time willing to start a new venture with you.
From Driver recruiting and retention to customer service and perfection. Everything in between was it Rocky Hill that you have to climb without hesitation if you strive success. Very rarely will you run into someone that will tap you on the shoulder and offer help.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I graduated from a college of sports and physical education. With a master’s degree in fitness. I played volleyball professionally and was very competitive on that field. Maybe that competitiveness got me where I am right now.
Not taking no for an answer and not being afraid to fail.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I have learned that business-related problem-solving sharpens you up so good for everyday life challenges. Hustling and grinding through business situations/problems, make everyday life, walk through the park.
