Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd Barrow.
Hi Todd, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
A chance encounter at Cook Children’s Medical Center is all it took to set me on my mission to revamp classic country with his signature modern twist. One day, an American Idol contestant was slated to perform for the patients at my place of employment, but the audio tech was nowhere to be found. When he heard the call, “Can anybody here run sound?” I answered. In walked Texas Music Hall of Fame Honoree Sonny Burgess just as I was setting up the live rig, and the two musicians struck up a conversation. Sonny told me about his work with Charlie Pride and Randy Travis and asked me if he might lend his technical skills to help build the recording studio sponsored by Garth Brooks and Troy Aikman he that had in the works. This serendipitous encounter yielded a coffee meeting to review the blueprints for the project, and before long, Sonny was meeting with me for coffee weekly to discuss music. Eventually, he became my mentor, forever changing the course of my career.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve encountered many setbacks along the way. Especially being an Indie country artist without the support of a major record label. I had to start thinking outside the box to gain access to resources that would give me the leverage. Since then, I’ve been able to connect with major players in the music industry. My focus has been to create the best country music that would achieve many awards. Be so good that I could not be ignored.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
A catalog of professional recordings that get airplay on radio around the world. I’ve also started being a music consultant working with top artists/bands in the business. Music is my business as a recording artist, producer, songwriter and entertainment! I’m most proud of receiving a PR award for a song written with Sonny Burgess. We wrote a song for the Ronald Mcdonald House in Ft. Worth. Recorded at a studio where Jewel records her music. I think what sets me apart is the drive to keep reaching for the top!
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The covid-19 has been a challenge for musicians and artists. I learned that I had to keep writing songs and creating new releases. First time I started doing virtual concerts online. Learned how to get better at publicity by phone/email. This pandemic taught me to be grateful for live music and connecting with fans in that type of atmosphere.
