Today we’d like to introduce you to Yosha Shah.
Hi Yosha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The art Henna – called as mehndi in Hindi and Urdu. It symbolizes good health and prosperity in marriage. As a child, I always used to apply henna on my own hands during family weddings. I was good in drawing and art from my school days but never got chance to pursue as a career. I belong from Indian family where engineers and doctors were treated as a respectful careers. I completed my engineering and was working in IT for five years. After marriage, I came United States on spouse visa and I left my career. I thought I will be all day home doing nothing but nothing become everything to me when my husband told me to find anything that I like to do. The only thing that came in my mind was Henna. I started to draw designs on paper and later try to recreate with henna cones. I started to draw on my own hands and then my friends from the apartment asked me to apply henna for festivals. With time and practice, I became more creative in henna designs. Already there were so many artists in the town that initially I was scared to start my own business but my mom always told me “To achieve your dream only the first step will be difficult and then you will run towards your dream”. With time my small business started to get good customer reviews and eventually my brand “Tejalvani Henna By Yosha” came into notice.
I served for two years in California and now new bee in Austin.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was a smooth road for me as my husband always supported and encouraged me to achieve my dreams. I left my IT job and pursued my career towards henna art. Initially, my family called me crazy for quitting full-time job to become an entrepreneur but everything comes with a cost. Today smile on my client’s face and meeting new people from different cultures and understanding their values brings happiness to my soul.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I feel Google business worked very well for my business. Customers reviews helped me to achieve good ratings and this helped my business to be listed in top search. Also, Instagram stories and hashtags were helpful in networking.
