Check Out Morgan Goodwin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Goodwin.

Hi Morgan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The scent of a box of Crayola has always been one of my mother’s favorite aromas. Her desk drawers at home, as well as her office, have permanently been stocked with the little yellow boxes. Much of my childhood our time together was spent coloring, the place where my love for art began. To keep my brother and I occupied during after school programs she enrolled us in an oil painting class at the local convent. There, in the dark musky stone-clad room, I found my calling as a painter, especially one of flowers. It was a hobby I kept up with throughout life, but in the last five years, my aspirations and talents have truly blossomed. In 2017, I had my first baby girl, my second in 2020 and their existence has sparked a new love for my gifts and the desire to model healthy dream-seeking, make-it-happen, do-what-you-love behaviors for them. I opened Morgan Goodwin Art in 2016 and sell original and print works on both my website and in various shops. Painting fills a giant space in my heart and is my greatest love language and purest gift I can give to those around me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Periods of artistic endeavors have fluctuated with the ebbs and flows of life, but it’s the one thing that’s always felt very natural to me. After I’d settled into adulthood, met my husband, and got to point where I could enjoy the stillness, I picked the paintbrush back up. It was then that I thought about the possibilities of pursuing my craft and monetizing those efforts. Like most sensitive artists, or anyone truly passionate about their work, the fear of rejection can be such an ugly barrier. In the beginning, I battled internally to create work that had a deeper meaning, as opposed to just something really beautiful. Having kids has totally changed my perspective on art, what it means, what it needs to be for me to feel fruitful. I’ve spent hours watching my eldest play with art and find so much joy without needing to explain to me from the depths of her soul why it was special. It just is. It is beautiful and it makes her heart happy to construct and therefore, it is good. I’ve turned a page in the last couple of years and now paint for enjoyment and to create beauty. That’s not to say there aren’t obstacles. As an artist, especially in a social media-ridden world, you have to stay relevant. Doing so requires a lot of time, a lot of thought and a tremendous amount of support. It’s also a very vulnerable position to be in, but if my artwork can generate an ounce of joy in others, then I have a firm conviction I’ve accomplished a very big part of my purpose.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a self-taught painter specializing in botanicals, florals, nude figures and brightly-colored abstracts. My art is vivid, eclectic, playful, and feminine/body-positive. My studio is based out of my 1920’s craftsman home in New Braunfels, Texas that I share with my husband, two spunky girls, and posse of kittens. It’s a chaotic household/studio, but one filled with happiness and giggles. That joy certainly finds its way onto the canvas.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I could write a book of Thank You’s owed to those supportive of my artistic endeavors. My husband – He’s immensely patient, encouraging and is always ready for an adventure;

My girls – My greatest inspirations;

My parents & brother – I’ve stained a lot of floors and towels in the last 35+ years. They provided me a blank canvas and let me run with it;

My closest girlfriends, sister-in-law, and photographers Shelby Brown and Melissa Glynn are major cheerleaders and know when to push me (which is often for this Virgo);

My in-laws, who would literally do anything to help bring my dreams to fruition;

My collectors – the support has changed my business and my love for painting;

And to God – the source of all my talents.
