Today we’d like to introduce you to Melody Gonzalez.
Hi Melody, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ever since I can remember, as a little girl, my mother instilled in me passion for beauty and glamour. Even though the saying goes that “beauty is from within”, I believe it is important for a woman to have passion to glamour up herself. My career in retail began in 2011’ and I worked for Nordstrom for five years. Working at this department store proved to me that I needed to pursue my true passion in, Cosmetology. In 2016’, I enrolled with Baldwin Beauty school. Not too long into my career, I pursued my desire to open my own suite and did so and ran my own “Beauty by Melody G” at Salons by J. As many of us experienced and due to the pandemic situation, it was short-lived, nonetheless, I have not lost sight and aspire to reopen my own salon in the future. At the current time, I am an independent contractor hairstylist at “Lady & Saint”. At Lady & Saint, I love being creative and making my clients feel beautiful.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to success has had its “ups and downs”. Like my grandfather used to say, “life is like the waves. You will get a good wave and you don’t know how long it will last, then you’ll get a bad wave, and you don’t know how long that will last, and that is all life is.” I get my drive from my parents, my dad an army medic and my mom, a strong independent woman. They instilled in me a strong work ethic, and I aspire do the same for my daughter. Smooth or rough road; be strong, determined persevere and have aspirations.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love being artistic with color and sculpting shapes into all types of hair. I love the hustle and transformation from a simple movement of a haircut to making a vision of color come to life. The absolute best part of my career is the connection I have with my clients, getting to know my clients through all walks of life is truly inspiring and makes me only want to leap higher in my career.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
A dream starts with a spark. That spark lives in all of us. Our dreams and desires can be taken to the level that we desire to take them. Keep your dream alive. Sometimes it can be through your support system, sometimes, you must seek out a support system and that’s ok, but seek it out. Sometimes, it can be with pictures that you post around you. I’ve learned that this is one of the strongest ways to keep your dream alive. Post pictures and set goals of what you wish for or aspire, and that dream will become your reality.
