Rising Stars: Meet Mike Hamilton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Hamilton.

Hi Mike, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was a teacher and a small business owner who had recorded some podcasts with friends. We started developing card games based on video games and playtesting them at a local d&d cafe. We sent the card game over to China to be printed and had time on our hands. We began a show in the back of this cafe about upcoming events. The show started to grow and we ended up moving to an eSports location. It was at this location I met Cory Dickman who wanted to start a podcast group or network. To jump-start this, we held a shark tank-type pitch competition and gave away ten shows with ten episodes each. Having said that, giving away 100 episodes in one day is not recommended. Rogue Media Network basically began that day and has been growing for the last two years. We currently have 70+ shows either on the network or in development. Our shows and content have developed over this time from local-based content to more of a national flair. In 2022 we will move to our third and biggest location with a growth mindset.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been struggles along the way, but without struggles or failures, we don’t grow. I see these miscues as things we now know not to do or do differently. We’ve had shows that didn’t pan out and content we’ve had to scrap. We were lucky enough to do 11 episodes of TV for Texas Music Cafe and learned a lot about how TV and good producing works. Since, we have produced several music videos, industrial videos, and more podcasts than you could dream of.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I record, edit, promote, and develop all of our current and upcoming shows. I was nominated for producer of the year for a local award and am honored to be able to work with the talent we have. We’ve begun to program for a national audience versus a local one and our numbers have begun to really grow. The future is bright and we hope to continue to develop and maintain our shows and talent.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Netflix, HBO, and streaming services have started to develop their own podcast-based entertainment and can see bigger services starting to snatch up shows. With podcasts turned shows like The Shrink Next Door, Lore, Batman: The Audio Adventures, and others the streaming services have started to program for the podcast audience and beyond. I see Spotify becoming the largest audio platform for podcasts and home-grown podcast-based shows being developed more and more for mass consumption.
