Today we’d like to introduce you to Manisha Tripathi.
Hi Manisha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am an immigrant from Mumbai, India. I started working at a very early stage in my life. I quit my engineering studies to take care of my siblings and parents. I always worked hard to meet ends. My family was and is always my priority. I went through a lot of hardships in my life. But one thing that was taught to me by my parents was to NEVER GIVE UP.
I was working a 9 to 5 job in Fraud investigations and compliance for Sears, Indeed and Ebay. Though I loved what I did, at the back of my mind I always wanted to do something of my own. Since I am a people person, I loved interacting with people and organizing small social events for the community to keep them connected and add some joy into their mundane lives.
In Feb 2020 , one of my friends suggested why don’t I take this as a profession as she saw me managing the event in an organized manner. I was in the event industry back in India in 2008 but had quit that industry to take care of my 2 year old son at the time. I started my company in March 2021. I quit my job in September 2021 and registered my comapny as LLC.
Since then, I have never stopped. I started as a one woman show and now I have few crew members in my team. I have organized various kinds of events from Bollywood boat party which I thought would be a unique concept for south asians in Austin as there was no party for them organized here , cultural dance (garba) festivals , Bollywood celeb night in collaboration. I have also organized a New year’s eve 2022 keeping CDC guidelines and following all the covid protocols to keep everyone safe and at the same time they can still enjoy normal lives just like before covid. I do take all kinds of projects – private, social, corporate, cultural, weddings.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I wont’t it was a smooth road. To establish your company amongst the Shark companies is very difficult. It was challenging enough to even get that first client and build that confidence in them that we can deliver the event that we promised for. However, I could not been where I am without my family and friends’ support. Talking about challenges, apart from getting the client to pay for the worth you are putting efforts in making the event a success, you have to compete against your competitors. Sometimes you have to do the fieldwork due to the lack of staff. There are situations where you have to sacrifice your personal family life, sacrifice fun times with friends, skipping to see your child’s progress, be on the calls with clients answering various questions all day long, co-ordinating with different departments to get the final output as desired. One needs to have patience, multi-tasking skills, creativity and crisis manangement to deliver a successful event.
However, the passion for my company and work is so much that these struggles seem to be minimal in front of them.
