Community Highlights: Meet Adrian J. Trevino of Atomic Jiu Jitsu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian J. Trevino.

Hi Adrian J., can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a native Austinite and grew up like most boys here in Texas playing every sport imaginable. My father started me off in boxing at age five as I was always a lot smaller than other kids my age and he wanted me to be able to defend myself.

As with most kids growing up, I tried everything, football, baseball, soccer, track, you name it, I tried it. I wrestled in high school and really loved the workouts and camaraderie. After HS, I wanted something different so I tried Muay Thai and absolutely fell in love. Of course, I tried other martial arts along the way, but Muay Thai kept me coming back. I have always loved martial arts and combat sports.

One day at a party in 1999, I met a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt who asked me to come try a class. I was skeptical as I wrestled in HS and thought I knew everything there was to know, man was I wrong. He absolutely showed me how powerful Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is. I trained religiously from that point on, and then life happened. I started a new business and could not train as much as I wanted to.

Fast forward some years, I sold my business and retired. I went back to full-time training and teaching Jiu-Jitsu. Earning my Black Belt in 2020. After many years of teaching at another academy, I decided to open my own, which gave birth to Atomic Jiu-Jitsu.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
While I have owned and operated successful businesses across the state, I have never owned a Martial Arts School. From the beginning, I have had many challenges, the biggest being I opened a Martial Arts School in the middle of a pandemic, but if you know me, then you know I will always persevere.

Challenges are never really smooth, nor do I think they should be, but ours have been greatly mitigated by our amazing members and tremendous growth. Challenges are mere opportunities for solutions allowing us to evolve and grow.

As I reflect on this past year, we had far too many misses, but it will make us that much stronger in 2022 and beyond as we make the necessary changes to better serve our community. All of my businesses have operated under a very simple principle, “Give more in value than you receive in payment.” This is not about money, but quite simply about giving more than what you take. We are ready for new challenges as we look to improve Atomic Jiu-Jitsu!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Atomic Jiu Jitsu?
Atomic Jiu-Jitsu was founded in October of 2020 with the mission of helping kids become strong and confident, teaching adults how to defend themselves in the most efficient way possible, and giving back to our community.

We created an atmosphere where an entire family could train in a clean, safe, friendly, structured environment. We are not a typical gym, but a school where learning is fostered and progression is inevitable.

Our structured curriculum is a main pillar of our business. This is not a fly by the seat of your pants school. We know what we are teaching months in advance. After all, if you have a destination, it’s best to have a roadmap on how to get there. Atomic Jiu-Jitsu has the roadmap for human optimization through Jiu-jitsu!

Our certified instructors are here to assist each and every student in their journey. Our teaching methodologies allow students to learn more efficiently by breaking down techniques into bite-sized steps and actions. These teaching methodologies are another example of what makes us different than other schools.

Don’t take my word for it. Come by and experience what I am talking about. We offer a FREE 10 day trial with no obligation. Sign up online, start your trial, show up, and be ready to have fun!

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Perseverance and Luck!

Luck is real! I consider myself extremely lucky… It’s no coincidence that I also work hard at my craft. It’s strange how the hardest workers are always the luckiest. Be passionate and determined about what you want and luck will follow you.

Stay tuned for more Atomic Jiu-Jitsu locations coming soon. We have some exciting specialty programs to be released in 2022!
