Community Highlights: Meet Martin Eason of Desire Catering

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martin Eason.

Hi Martin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got my start in Decatur, Illinois at Taters Family grill. As a busboy, I remember walking through the kitchen and seeing all the guys in the back playing with fire, having fun, and just looking like rock stars. That’s when I decided I wanted to be a chef.

From there, I did a short stint in culinary school and since then, I’ve helped open three restaurants, a hotel, a casino, and conference center. I’ve worked for famous chefs and done corporate catering for companies like Dropbox, Indeed, and Yeti. Somewhere along the line, I found time to start my own catering company.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has come with many obstacles, such as finding opportunities to prove worth, jobs that pay a livable wage as well as having a work-life balance, and realizing I don’t want to work for others as an executive chef.

The biggest obstacle has been starting my business with limited funding and finding a way to put together all of my tools, resources, and network to market myself effectively as a business owner.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Desire Catering started in 2017 as a way for people that followed my social media to book me to actually try my food. Right now, I specialize in private in home dinners and small intimate events. My passion to create loving food, attention to details and vast knowledge of food set me apart from others. I’m most proud of my reputation of exceeding expectations. So much so that word of mouth has been my best marketing tool. I want readers to know that desire Catering has plans on expanding to not just offer private chef experiences. We want to do consulting for mom and pops. Corporate catering for top companies. And eventually full-service Catering

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love Austin’s food scene and the opportunities that come with a growing market. What I like least is trying to keep up with price increases for real estate in Austin. Although I love the growth, the increase in prices have moved the goal post for stepping out on my own.

Pricing:

  • Private dinners with 3 courses start at 125 per person plus tax and gratuity
