Daily Inspiration: Meet Amanda Pitts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Pitts.

Hi Amanda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I opened my small business in 2019, but the journey to get there can be traced back to childhood. I have always been crafty and being creative has been my second nature. In my free time, one could find me making creations spanning from watercolor to crocheting to making wire-wrapped jewelry. I frequently take craft classes for fun, but it was in 2017 where I fell in love with macrame and could not stop knotting. I made pieces for family and friends and it made me so happy to see the joy brought on from my art. That joy encouraged me to open this little business to share my art and create fiber goods that make you smile.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Running a small business has been an adventure and is completely new to me as my day job is to teach middle school math. Flourish is a one woman show and I have learned to wear all of the hats. I am the artist, the photographer, the social media manager, the production team, the accountant, and beyond more. I’m learning so much about running a business which is exciting but scary all at the same time and I constantly find myself repeating the classic David Rose quote of “That’s a write off.” Finding the balance is difficult, but I’m learning every day how to navigate this business and remembering why it all started. It brings happiness to my life and I never want to give that up.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I started with keychains, coasters, plant hangers and then stumbled onto rainbows! My rainbow car charms are my best sellers. You have art right in your car! A little hand-made rainbow to brighten your day. I expanded to making larger rainbows, baby mobiles, and teeny rainbows for party favors. I’m so grateful in knowing that these pieces of mine are all across the country in someone’s happy place.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
My inspiration comes from colors and patterns- sometimes fashion! Last year, I incorporated daisies into my Spring collection which were a tribute to the retro fashion making a comeback. This year, I’m currently experimenting with checkered patterns and just having fun with my art. I have found that creating has been such a release for me as an adult in what can be such a fast-paced world. I’ve learned the importance of play and the positive effects it can have on one’s mental health. I hope that my art not only brings joy but encourages creativity and fun for all ages.
