Check Out Kim Jackson Davis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Jackson Davis.

Hi Kim, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Tyler, Texas. When I was three years old, my mom put me in a dance class and, for whatever reason, I loved it and I kept doing it until I was almost 23 years old. I trained and competed in tap, jazz, ballet, and modern. I did it all. It was a creative outlet for me that I feel truly inspired me to do what I do today. Growing up in Tyler, there were Theatre classes, but no one really provided training for TV and film. I had always had an interest in acting but didn’t know where to start. Other than moving to L.A. So, I basically just stuck to dancing and I would take an occasional voice class. It wasn’t until I went to Kilgore college where I was a Rangerette, that I finally took my first acting class. Even though I was a bit overwhelmed about how much I didn’t know, it was there that I decided I would be moving to Los Angeles to pursue this career fully. I moved to Los Angeles when I was 19 years old and fell in love with the art of storytelling.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No. I learned very quickly after moving to L.A. that this was going to be a long journey. I actually took eight years away from the industry. About ten years ago, I realized that the industry had changed. Thanks to technology self-taping became mainstream. I could live in Texas and read for projects shooting anywhere in the world. I was lucky enough to book work and live in Texas and raise my two daughters. I have been so fortunate to work on amazing projects. My latest work includes Cruel Summer on Hulu and a movie Adam The First starring David Duchovny and Oakes Fegley.

When I am not working, I’m coaching at a studio in Austin, Texas – Carol Hickey Acting Studio. It’s the largest studio in Texas that has a conservatory style training program. I’m so thankful to work with other artists. Helping others succeed in this industry is a blessing. I’m the luckiest person to work as an actor and then share with others my experiences to hopefully expedite their journey.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Because of my training, my goal is to be able to lend my complete humanity to story. Whatever the story requires, I want to allow it to play through me without my own subjectivity. I rely heavily on imagination, childlike mentality and vulnerability. Carol Hickey my mentor, along with her mentor Harry Mastrogeorge are amazing resources on how to play this game at the highest level. I had the opportunity to work with Carol on a film. It was then she became one of my dearest friends and I jumped into her classes and have never looked back. This approach to the work has changed me not only as an artist but also as a human being. Forever grateful!
