Meet Rachel Saxon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Saxon.

Hi Rachel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up the youngest daughter of a fundamentalist minister in Alabama. I always like to say that I basically grew up with the dad from “Footloose”. Growing up in such a conservative environment was rather difficult because I always felt connected to the spiritual world but felt that what I was being told didn’t match up to how I was feeling. Especially when it came to the more misogynistic and patriarchal systems that were being reinforced. So as I grew up, I was always a little rebel and the black sheep of my family.

By the time I was in my early 20s, I started to really see some of the issues with the organized religion. So when I was 25, I moved to Austin and gave myself the freedom to really explore my more spiritual side outside the lens of organized religion. I started in the shamanic circles here and got acquainted with journeying and meditation. I also became reiki certified in this time and found it such a beautiful way to connect with people and with energy. Then by chance came across some tarot cards that a friend was giving away and immediately felt extremely connected to these tools. From there, I spent a couple of years just studying them and only reading for friends or co-workers. Then I got connected with Yarrow and Sage and started reading for the public and eventually became a certified life coach created my business where offer reiki, tarot and spiritual life coaching

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh, absolutely not at the beginning I had a hard time reconnecting with my spiritual side and overcoming my religious trauma. There’s so much that had to be unlearned for me to reconnect with my spiritual self outside of “the church”.

But I do feel so incredibly lucky that I’ve as able to create my own spiritual path because I know that many people who have similar traumas have a harder time separating their spirituality from the wounds of religion.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Because of my background, I find myself uniquely suited to help other people discover their spirituality outside of their trauma. I offer spiritual life coaching to help people heal from spiritual and religious trauma that they’ve experienced and using tarot and Reiki as tools to help explore and to heal.

I’m proud of the way I’ve set up a space that is safe for people to talk openly about their experiences without judgment and for us to create new ways for them to explore their own spirituality.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I don’t know really. I’m pretty much an open book.
