Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Weber.
Hi Ashley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always been curious about movement. I was never good at sports or dance but somehow, it always fascinated me. In following that curiosity, I became certified in Pilates in 2006 at The Pilates Center of Austin and have been passionately pursuing my career as a movement educator ever since. Throughout my journey, I have added Meditation and Yoga teaching to my offerings and received multiple certifications in 2015 in Austin, TX. The pandemic posed more challenges for my work and (like everyone else) I had to be more adaptive and I created Yoga And… Podcast really because I was lonely and I wanted to talk about yoga with cool new people! The show is an educational podcast that brings the magic of Yoga down to Earth for the everyday real person to help you live your best life! The show has been such a positive outlet for me, I learn so much from each interview and I especially appreciate my guests and the listeners who are so appreciative and supportive.
I also began a fun new project creating Yin Yoga + Kitty Cats online streaming classes. It is for cat lovers and pet lovers like who appreciate learning meditation, slowing down and stretching. It is a deeply fulfilling class as I can share the regular classes in my home with my cats and I get to connect all over the world to other pet lovers who also love Yin Yoga!
When it comes to teaching Yoga and Pilates, it’s ultimately about being of service to others and when I think of my career, my 16 years old self does leprechaun kicks on the daily!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think the biggest lesson for me has been to learn to take care of myself in a way that is conducive to holding space for others in a class setting. It’s important not to let your own “stuff” get in the way of teaching. The ways I have learned to do that are by setting firm boundaries and taking care of myself in a way that protects my own energy so I no longer overextend myself.
Another struggle has been navigating burnout. I can’t say in my 15 years of teaching, I always practiced what I preached but I have found that being a student is key to help with burnout. I also realized that rediscovering the work through a beginner’s mind takes me back to the fun of it and why I love the work in the first place! This is a big part of why I love teaching beginners in both Yoga and Pilates! Also, the key for me in keeping my work fresh is to be constantly learning different mind body modalities. I think it is so valuable if you are a teacher to also be a student and continuous learning is the key to a young mind and a long fulfilling career!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in post-rehabilitative Pilates, Beginner Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga, Post and Prenatal Yoga and Pilates. I also specialize in foot mobility and even offer Foot workshops online and around the Austin area. I am known for Yin Yoga and Live Harp events around Austin, TX. Yin Yoga + Kitty Cats online streaming classes. Yoga And… Podcast. I am known for teaching Pilates on the Equipment. I am most proud of how my work keeps adapting to the current times. New projects arise out of how I may be able to better serve my community through my work.
I have a diverse background of both Yoga and Pilates and provide a unique perspective on movement from both of the disciplines.
