Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Parker.
Hi Monique, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a mom, I never considered myself the crafty type. I was a proud member of the “store-bought” club and was really never involved in making handmade items myself. I worked in tech as a Program Manager and was really focused on the corporate climb. When my brother passed away unexpectedly in June, I needed an outlet to be distracted, something creative that I could do with my hands- the complete opposite of what I’d normally turn to for some relief. One day I walked into the craft store with no direction at all and walked out with a variety of candle making supplies. One bad candle turned into late nights going down YouTube rabbit holes on candle making and the do’s and dont’s of working with different waxes. Soon my hobby turned into my side business turned into my passion project, lol. When I created Blow Candle Co., it was always going to have some component of giving back. Right now, we partner with a new woman-focused non profit every quarter to spotlight their mission as well as donate a portion of every candle sold over the three month period directly to their cause. Since our launch in October, Blow Candle Co. has taken off in unexpected and incredible ways. The feedback has been great and I’m excited for what’s to come in the next year!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The decision to launch a business in 2020 felt like an insane thing to do. Especially in an industry where having the opportunity to interface with customers is important. Candle shopping is an experience I think most customers prefer to have in person so that they’re able to smell and see the product live at least once- that’s definitely something that I continue to navigate. I’m constantly thinking of creative ways to convey the fragrance or vibe of a new scent online. I also have a husband two girls (9+ 1.5) and a full time job, haha! Nothing but my brother could have gotten me to agree to launch an entire business in the midst of a pandemic and virtual learning at that! Learning how to balance. How to stay current with my business, keep up my performance at work, spend quality time with my family can be a lot. I focus on trying to be efficient and really optimize my time. I’m a big fan of lists these days!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Blow Candle Co.?

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
DONE IS BETTER THAN PERFECT! That is something I continue to tell myself as my business grows. In the beginning I got really stuck making decisions and putting things out there because everything wasn’t “perfect.” What I’ve learned is that you don’t know what you actually need to change until you get feedback which you can’t get unless you put yourself out there! Also, do what you can with the budget you have. Don’t feel the need to go and splurge on every little thing. Start small and build up to your investments.
