Inspiring Conversations with Ebony Kindred of EK Balloons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Kindred.

Hi Ebony, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In becoming a mother of two at a young age, I learned to become a DIY type of Mom. My initial endeavors started with interior decorating for friends and family and organically progressed to parties and special events. When my children had parties, I enjoyed decorating and customizing all the details of the party myself. A few years back, when balloons were becoming the “IT” thing to have as the main focal point at events, it was just another challenge to create one myself. That same year for my daughter’s 16th birthday, I tried my luck and created a 15 foot balloon garland. I quickly realized this type of work takes time and experience to create the amazing balloon structures that I had seen. Immediately I knew I had something special and couldn’t give up. I became fully invested in learning the balloon trade and all of its glory. After many lessons, practice, and sleepless nights EK Balloons was launched! We’ve been making Austin smile a little brighter with our beautiful balloon displays ever since. We now provide services not only in Austin but all surrounding areas. This line of business is forever evolving, which brings me great excitement knowing there is so much more to learn to help us be better creators for our clients.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As with any small business startup, navigating the “unknown” was one of my biggest challenges. When addressing those challenges, I rely upon my business partner to progressively work through all of the possible scenarios in the best interests of our clients. At the end of the day, I live by integrity and make all business and personal choices on that principle. Another challenge I faced was always striving for perfection while learning to adapt to certain situations that I must work in that may be out of my control. From unpredictable weather conditions of an outside installation or venue requirements that restrict the full range of my organic creations, these are some of the obstacles that I routinely navigate on a frequent basis.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about EK Balloons?
EK Balloons is an Austin born, local vendor for all of your balloon and backdrop display needs. We have happily served our community since 2021 by creating spectacular balloon displays for private and corporate events. Specializing in creating organic balloon arrangements for our customers is what we take the most pride in. Each one is uniquely made and never duplicated. What sets EK Balloons apart from others is the personalization of the installation. We encourage the customer to lead the way of their vision and allow us to enhance their vision versus providing a stockpile of options to choose from. Brand wise, we are most proud of customer service and quality of work. We want the readers to know that EK Balloons is the true representation of a homegrown, customer-perfected small business that appreciates every opportunity afforded to us.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is waking up every morning and navigating the unknown. Whether it’s a full day of work or a completely clear day to fill up with relaxation and family time, I am grateful for both.
