Check Out Emily Vazquez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Vazquez.

Hi Emily, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Also known as the intuitive eating Registered Dietitian behind @emmysyummys via Instagram.

Growing up, I did not have a healthy relationship with food. Like many women struggle with, I believed that eating less and exercising more was the key to being healthy, however, this lead me down a dark road of an eating disorder that I struggled with from middle school up until college. During college, I spent much of my time still feeling at constant war with my body: counting calories, over-exercising, and following a ton of food rules. I reflected a lot during senior year and realized that I could no longer live my life like this while pursuing my degree in nutrition. I wanted to be a dietitian that people could look up to and count on, not one that was struggling with her own issues with food. The rest of that year I dedicated myself to truly improving my relationship with food, exercise and my body and started to invest my time and energy into things I once loved.

Healing my own relationship with food and seeing the mental and physical health benefits of intuitive eating, I developed a strong passion for helping other women navigate away from diet culture so they can also find peace with food just as I have. I believe that my past struggles has made me a better dietitian today and nothing makes me happier than watching my clients rebuild the life they truly love without food rules holding them back.

My philosophy for health and nutrition is using an Intuitive Eating framework to teach my clients how to eat without anxiety, stress, or fear of losing control. Using what I know as a nutrition professional, I separate fear from facts so women can feel more confident about their eating choices and can finally ditch the diet mentality. In addition to my 1:1 coaching, I run a group coaching program, Nourished to Thrive and share how I navigate intuitive eating on my YouTube channel. I hope my work can inspire others to take the first step towards making peace with food and body!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey to where I am today was not linear. There were many times where I felt like giving up and that I may never be successful (in both my business and healing my relationship with food). However, I remained true to my goals and values in life and those kept me motivated when I had those moments. I think one of the hardest obstacles I faced when healing my relationship with food is trying to do so in a world that praises weight loss and dieting. This often keeps many women back as well because it can make you feel like the outlier. However, it is 100% possible to achieve food freedom and everyone deserves to get to that point!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Registered Dietitian who specializes in helping women ditch chronic dieting so they can transform their relationship with food and rebuild trust with their body so they can live their lives free from food obsession.

I am most proud of starting my nutrition business all on my own and watching it evolve over the past few years has been incredibly rewarding. I genuinely love what I do and “work” does not feel like “work” to me when I am seeing my clients.

I am not like the ordinary dietitian/nutritionist who mainly gives out nutrition plans. I care more about the mindset behind people’s food choices and the mental health side of how people view food and their bodies. I love being able to educate people on how to take care of their physical and mental health without becoming obsessed or restrictive with food.
