Exploring Life & Business with Kendall Kuebel-Turner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendall Kuebel-Turner.

Hi Kendall, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am originally from Texas, but after marrying into the military, we lived across the United States in places like South Carolina, New Mexico, Alaska and Ohio.  I had obtained my degree in elementary education and I planned to start teaching again upon my return.  I happened upon this opportunity at my son’s football practice when one of my friends brought it up to me.  When I originally came on board with the Association in 2016 they were having a few events per year and had a small membership base.  We have been growing ever since.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Running a Builder’s Association is a full time job!  There are many aspects of my job including accounts receivable, accounts payable, membership, planning and executing events that all require time and energy.  Plus, I am a single mom with two young children, so finding the balance was a real challenge!   I am a driven, competitive person so failure was not an option, but there were definitely some long nights and stress to deal with along the way.  Thankfully, I am blessed with an amazing family, a very close group of friends and some of the best association members who help and support me to this day.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Greater New Braunfels Home Builders Association?
The Greater New Braunfels Home Builders Association serves the Comal County area. We work hard to advocate for our members on a local level, but we also have state and national representation through the Texas Association of Builders (TAB) and National Home Builders Association (NAHB).  We host several fundraisers throughout the year to support these initiatives.  We also have networking events like fishing and golf tournaments, BBQ Cook-offs, etc. for our builder and associate members to engage and connect.

The Parade of Homes is our largest event/fundraiser and allows participating builders and their trade partners to showcase their craftsmanship to attendees from all over the nation.  This event also provides recognition throughout the state of Texas.

We are in desperate need of construction trade professionals today!  Our Association, working closely with Comal ISD, created our Trades Mentorship Program to help address this need.  This program offers students hands on training by educators in the classroom and real-life professional training in the field. Graduating Seniors of this program are able to interview with our participating companies and go to work for them as a paid part-time employee.  These hours can also go towards their certification in that field!  Every January we host a Casino Night to purchase materials, safety equipment and tools for these students to use in the classroom and in the field.

What matters most to you?
I care about my members and want them to be successful!  Our Association is a family of generous individuals who are always ready to lend a hand. I love my job because I work with some amazing people!
