Today we’d like to introduce you to Daphna Sebbane.
Hi Daphna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a Designer based out in Austin, TX. I work as a full-time designer for a tech company and freelance for my own brand. From a young age, I knew I wanted to get into the arts and hoped to have a career in the creative field. I studied design at the University of Texas at Austin and landed a design job right after graduation.
At the time of my first design job, it sometimes lacked a bit of creativity. The job was in a very corporate world that didn’t really like to stray from designs that were already established. This led me to want to design for myself. I started this journey of doing daily designs and posting them on social media which led me to start working on real projects for clients.
It took me quite some time to find clients but once I kept building my brand more people reached out. My work has mystical elements to it and I have a lot of people who admire my unique style reaching out to create designs for their brand. Branding yourself with a unique style can help you stand out and people will take notice. It’s been a fun journey so far!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been times when initially, I’ve taken on a project that I thought would be a great fit and along the process, it turned out it wasn’t. Those types of experiences can be a struggle but help you grow and teach you how to better navigate every project.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I focus on branding, typography and illustration work. My work is inspired by the southwest, tattoo art, the occult, and all things mystical. Some awesome clients I’ve had the pleasure of working for, My Morning Jacket, Parks Project, Hyperlite Wake Co. REI, and more. I think the biggest milestone would be garnering the clients I have so far through social media and doing more work locally. I’ve met a lot of creatives in my city through local meet ups and creative events and being a part of the community is helping me grow as a designer.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think styles and trends come and go. I’m hoping print isn’t totally dead and we see more of that in this digital world. I love having my work screen printed on posters. There is something very unique about the hand made quality.
