Rising Stars: Meet Michelle Trejo Wood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Trejo Wood.

Hi Michelle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a digital marketing expert and brand storyteller with over ten years of experience, I’m well aware that many women in the creative industry never reach executive or leadership positions. Nearly 50% of women in the creative industry dream of opening their own businesses and only 12% think it is a realistic goal. And an even smaller margin of those women ends up starting their own companies. In fact, women-owned creative agencies account for less than 0.1% of the industry! There is an even wider leadership gap for women of color.

That’s where we come in. MAUVE Social is named after my grandmother and former educator, Mauvelyene, and was created to support brands doing good in the world. We are female-founded, purpose-driven digital creative agency that is dedicated to elevating brands with positive impact.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s taken a combination of hard work, building deep relationships, and pushing through feelings of doubt to get me where I am today. I have experienced setbacks, trials, and tribulations, but instead of being discouraged those experiences have left me a more conscientious person, which is why I want to support businesses that align with my core values and seek to create positivity in the world.

The road to success does not happen overnight, it requires focus and perseverance. I learned that you must keep believing in yourself and in your abilities. If it takes longer than you anticipated, don’t be discouraged. Keep the faith and always remember why you started.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I see my new role as an opportunity to help purpose-driven brands in a variety of industries grow their impact and connect with audiences in meaningful ways.

We’re proud to be a BIPOC-owned creative agency and part of the 0.1% of agencies founded by women. Our agency is built around our values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, making us an ideal partner for brands looking to reach diverse audiences. We believe that a truly effective strategy requires authentic storytelling and performance – whether it’s driving sales or supporting a social cause – and we pride ourselves on achieving great results for our clients. Plus, with every new project we take on, we plant a tree to help make the world a better place.

It doesn’t matter your industry, follower count, or where you are in your journey, we will help you achieve the results you wish to see and feel.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
MAUVE Social has been over four years in the making, both professionally and personally. After the COVID-19 pandemic hit and impacted my event business, Bring Your Own Dog (BYOD), I knew it was time to pivot and focus my energy on something new.

I had no idea that Bring Your Own Dog (BYOD) would eventually lead me to where I am today. I’m grateful for the ability to build upon my past experiences while keeping an eye towards the future about what lies ahead. And I’m excited to see what www.mauvesocial.com will achieve in the months and years to come!
