Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily.
Hi Emily, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I studied data science in graduate school. Unfortunately, my graduation coincided with the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and I was laid off only six weeks after starting my career. I spent months submitting resumes and applying to jobs without a response. It was also during this time that I started gaining an interest in LEGO since I was stuck inside for most of the day. My LEGO collection grew quickly at which point I decided to start uploading videos on YouTube talking about my growing interest in LEGO. When my husband and I moved up north and purchased a house later that year, I finally had the space to build a beautiful LEGO display as well as a LEGO City. Since 2020, I’ve been uploading LEGO lifestyle content including vlogs, LEGO City updates, and even live streams of building LEGO sets. Today, I am recognized as an ambassador for LEGO and have a community of 80,000 LEGO fans from around the world! LEGO content creation is now my full-time job and I’m incredibly grateful to be able to share my excitement of LEGO with so many people!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Joining the online LEGO community as a woman, I was a bit concerned about how people would react, but for the most part, everyone has been incredibly welcoming. Social media will always have its challenges, but I’m incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by such a genuinely kind community.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m known for creating LEGO lifestyle content on YouTube, Instagram, Twitch, and TikTok. My community includes 80,000 people from around the world who range from being new LEGO fans to lifelong hobbyists. I’m most known for my LEGO City and LEGO shopping vlogs. There aren’t many women creating content in the LEGO community, and it has been really inspirational for me seeing more and more women finding an interest in LEGO over the last few years!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I grew up in Orlando, Florida and I used to go to Disney World all the time with my mom. I really enjoyed getting to experience the theme parks every weekend with her!
