Rising Stars: Meet Mariah Stolfi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariah Stolfi.

Hi Mariah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I went on my first diet at seven years old. I’ve tried every day it out there. I’ve even was hospitalized for an eating disorder because I was so desperate to lose weight. I finally had success when I decided to have bariatric surgery. I had a gastric bypass in October 20 20 and I have lost over 110 pounds since then. I believe everything comes down to balance and calories in versus calories out. I exercise often and I eat fairly healthy but I still enjoy going out with family and friends.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
So I actually had a different type of bariatric surgery in 2017. I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy. I lost about 80 pounds and quickly developed severe Gerd and that devolved into a hiatal hernia. I also had gained back some weight. So in 2020 when I had the bypass it was actually a revision to bypass to fix all of those Gerd issues. Having a revision surgery is the best thing I’ve ever done. I have zero acid reflux now & my hernia was repaired. I did end up having to get my gallbladder removed which is pretty common after rapid weight loss. As I mentioned in the previous question in between the two surgeries I was actually hospitalized for an eating disorder. I was diagnosed with bulimia nervosa. But I have been in recovery from that for a few years now.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
So I’ve documented my entire weight-loss journey over the last 5+ years. I started out just on Instagram and YouTube. But once Tiktok took off over the pandemic I got on there and I have been able to grow a fairly big following. I’m just grateful that I can share my way with others who are also struggling to lose weight.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was always the loud kid. I grew up very poor and had a rough childhood that lead to some of my weight problems. We pretty much survived off ramen noodles & frozen pizzas. I still maintained that goofy loud personality though.
