Rising Stars: Meet James Rodriguez

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Rodriguez.

Hi James, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started in the industry in 2008 as a production assistant. Working my way through the ranks in the world of branded content and independent feature films. Currently a producer and head of production for a local Austin, TX production company.

I recently started St. Primo as a Latino creative collective that showcases and promotes Latino creatives and filmmakers in the punk rock, horror and comedy genres.

Our mission is to normalize the Latino culture and presence in the entertainment and music industry.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The reception from the community has been very positive!

Many Latino creatives are excited to have a platform designed to highlight and showcase the Latino culture, at the same time promote and foster new Latino creatives into the creative industry.

The support is there and everyone is more than happy to be involved and have a voice.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The work of St. Primo specializes in featuring artistic content that brings prominence to the Latino culture in all forms for digital media.

We are most known for music videos in the punk rock and heavy metal genres as well as short-form content in the horror and comedy genres.

I am most proud of each project that brings to light the Latino creatives and their marginalized voices that need to be heard.

What sets us apart, is the emphasis in mentoring and fostering new creative talent, and help ushering the Latino creatives towards the creative path that is right for them.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
From the start, family, loved ones and allies have supported this journey.

The “St” (saint) is the benevolent attitude to help others.

The “Primo” is the familial approach in helping and fostering their creative talents.

We are like a family.
