Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Green.
Hi Kristen, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been into makeup since the age of 12 years old when my best friend’s mom bought me my first makeup kit. It wasn’t until I was out of High School when I really started to experiment with makeup. I remember going into the Macy’s and buying M.A.C makeup and going home to practice my makeup skills. When I look back some of my older pictures I think Krissy what were you thinking Lol!? Fast forward to 2018 I moved to Los Angeles with my boyfriend and two kids. I was excited, it was a New place and at the time I wanted to be a Fashion Stylist. So I transferred my job BCBG MaxAzria to work here in Los Angeles. I also worked for Sharon & Nina Segal Fred Segal’s daughters who has a Boutique in the Valley. I became homeless within 9 months of living here in Los Angeles due to my boyfriend quitting his job and working for a motivational coach for free. I didn’t know what to do or how to handle the situation so, I sent my daughter back to Ohio with my mom and my son with his dad. I was homeless for 2 years and for those 2 years it was like survival mode. I worked out every day because I had to have a place to shower and get dressed. After, I would work out and shower I would record makeup videos inside the gym bathroom for my Youtube until someone told on me. I then started to record my videos in the car or I would get a hotel once a week to record my videos. I found out during the pandemic that I was pregnant and during this time I had to stay busy. I started to record makeup tutorials on YouTube again then I discovered TikTok. I wasn’t sure about what I was going to do on TikTok so for the first couple of months I would do trending videos mixed with makeup and fashion. Then I discovered the Beauty community and fell in love. My first VIRAL video was of me covering my dark circles using the Maybelline Superstay concealer and from there my channel grew FAST!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Yes! I became homeless within nine months of living here in Los Angeles due to my boyfriend quitting his job and working for a motivational coach for free. I didn’t know what to do or how to handle the situation so, I sent my daughter back to Ohio with my mom and my son with his dad. I was homeless for two years and for those two years it was like survival mode. I worked out every day because I had to have a place to shower and get dressed. After I would work out and shower I would record makeup videos inside the gym bathroom for my Youtube until someone told on me. I then started to record my videos in the car or I would get a hotel once a week to record my videos. Being homeless was one of the worst times in my life. I thought I would never get out. Each night I would pray and ask God to place me where he wanted me to be and my prayers were answered.
