Community Highlights: Meet Becky Navarro of Pearl Events Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Navarro.

Hi Becky, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I graduated from Louisiana State University in 2006. I’m originally from outside of Dallas and after graduation knew I wanted to settle in Texas, but not in Dallas. I moved to Austin and started working as the admin to a group of wedding sales managers at Vintage Villas – a venue off of Lake Travis. I stayed at Vintage Villas for about 2.5 years, then moved to Whole Foods Headquarters as a Catering Sales Manager. In 2010, while pregnant with my daughter, Pearl, Pearl Events Austin was born. My husband TJ and I had no idea what it would be like starting a business and raising a newborn!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve started two business at this point in my life. Pearl Events Austin in 2010 and Woodbine Mansion in 2018. I’d say the first one was a lot harder. Although I had worked in the event industry for four years prior to starting Pearl Events, it was still so hard! It’s a challenge getting your name out there, having vendors trust you, and especially having clients trust a new company. Plus there are so many things that aren’t the “fun” side of building a company: office space, leases, insurance, web development, advertising costs, taxes, CPA, SEO, the list goes on! Woodbine Mansion was a much larger project, and it also came with so much pressure! I felt like I had established Pearl Events pretty well in the industry, we know our brand and our identity. It was hard coming up with the identity of Woodbine so it was still ME but not Pearl Events.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Pearl Events Austin?

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
All we really own, all that we really possess are memories of moments with others. So, we must be intentional when creating opportunities for these moments to occur; be intentional in capturing the moments in a lasting form; be intentional about curating and sharing those moments. These moments that connect us are our true wealth.
