Rising Stars: Meet Ethan Woods

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ethan Woods.

Hi Ethan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story is about following your intuition, purpose and best self. My name is Ethan Woods, I’m 27 and grew up in North Dakota. I moved to Austin in 2019, it seemed like the place to be. Since a young age, I was always around sports and a competitive group of kids. My two sports I lettered in were hockey and tennis, they both played a big part in my perspective of art. For instance, everything is energy and if your not expending energy your not playing hockey or tennis or creating art. Everything changes, plays always change. They are never executed the same way. The same goes for art, I have a plan when I start painting but sometimes my plan changes. You feel and change things if you see better ways. Everything is interconnected. Physics, chemistry, biology, psychology are all elements in hockey, tennis and art. Surfaces change we use, the equipment, mood everything is mixed and that’s what I pull from for my art and creative process. When I realized these principals at a young age, I started recognizing all the ways my love for art enriched my life. Sports shaped my life when I was younger, and now I’m seeing that art is the predominant influence in my life now. Also seeing it connecting everywhere and enjoying where it takes me.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My obstacle was communicating with my dad, let’s just say he was a classical thinker and I’m a romantic thinker.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I paint on canvas typically, mainly with acrylics and mixed media. I like furniture, spaces, colors and shapes. I use these for inspiration and ideas when creating, but also nature is probably the biggest influence for my work and creative process. I feel very spontaneous but introspective in art and in life. I feel like I can do anything I want.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Not really sure where the industry and world is headed in the next 5-10 years but I’m very sensitive to the moods of the world and try to bring light to the shadows. I have high hopes for harmony.
