Meet Lexi Hoker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexi Hoker.

Hi Lexi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love for hair and makeup started very early on. My mother owned a hair salon and my sister and I spent a lot of time there as kids, so I was always surrounded by talented hair stylists and my want to pursue an education in the industry grew more and more. I was very lucky to go to a high school that offered a cosmetology program as part of the course curriculum and spent my sophomore-senior years learning all that I could about hair! Once I graduated I was immediately drawn to the wedding and bridal industry and knew that was what I wanted to specialize in. I bounced around a few companies and picked up a lot of useful education and learned makeup during this time as well. After being in the bridal industry for a few years, I decided it was time for me to branch out on my own and form my own brand that represented me as an artist and catered to a very niche and specific clientele. Luxe by Lexi was formed and has grown beyond my expectations in the little more than a year that I’ve established myself and my team within the industry!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I feel like the biggest hurdle I faced was one that I created in my own mind. I told myself for many years “now isn’t the right time” to branch out on my own and build my own brand and team. I put a limit on myself and my capabilities, which only held me back from accomplishing my goals I had set for myself years prior. Imposter syndrome told me that I wasn’t good enough, experienced enough, or educated enough to go at it alone. Now, my biggest struggles are trying to keep up with the growth I’m experiencing and expanding my team!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Luxe by Lexi is a boutique, on-location full-service hair and makeup team. We specialize in natural glam with skin-like finish and a radiant glow that seems to be lit from within. Romantic and effortless hair styling adds the finishing touch to complete that classic yet chic bridal look we all strive for! I believe what sets us apart is our ability to listen and create personal relationships with our brides from the beginning of their engagement all the way to their wedding day and even afterward as they continue on with their life post-nuptials! I take so much pride in the intention and education behind Luxe and in giving each and every one of our clients a curated and luxurious experience from start to finish.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I think the biggest takeaway from the pandemic and how it affected our industry was the lack of sanitation. In the state of Texas, you do not have to be a licensed professional to work in bridal hair and makeup and I believe that really showed when we had to take extra precautions to avoid exposure. I personally only hire licensed artists to work on my team and/or require all of my artists to take a state-regulated sanitation course and pass. I also require that they take these courses as recommended by the state so that education and sanitation protocols are kept up to date! This ensures that your experience with us is not only luxurious but safe and sanitary.
