Today we’d like to introduce you to Charly Pope.
Hi Charly, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
GAL Camp was started in a different time, under a different name, under different ownership, but with the same intentions. To gather a group of badass ladies who wanted to have a great time! Some women’s camp have their purposes of retreat, and development, and peace. While I love all those things also, I wanted GAL camp to be one of the most FUN weekends of your entire year! It started with just a group of 20 ladies who wanted to have a girl’s weekend, and camp has grown to over 100s of women who have attended, most come back yearly! Camp has really grown organically from these alumni campers and by continuing to provide a unique camp experience every year.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing has been smooth over here, but it’s always been fun! One of the struggles was when the campground that I used religiously every year started expanding themselves! That required camp to have to grow in numbers so I could continue to rent the entire property for a more private experience. This number went from 60 to 110 almost within one year! Covid was HUGE! No camp in 2020, obvi. And in 2021 many of the girls came back ready to have fun, but many of them had to drop last minute because of sickness or became wary about it being too soon. All of these struggles, and more, are just teaching moments!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work as an Event Manager! I’ve been planning events for different companies for years now. This ranges from corporate events, music festivals to birthday parties and retirement dinners. I have been known for my willingness to solve a problem, help fix it and create a magical moment. I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty and make something happen. I receive real joy from planning the details! Maybe even more than executing the real event. For me, the back and forth and making sure every detail has been thought of is where I set myself apart! There’s always things that could have been done different, but those are just ideas for the next time!
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’ve never felt like a lucky person, so I would say very little. I’ve always believed you reap what you sow, and the people around you add value to your life and business.
