Today we’d like to introduce you to Dauss Miller.
Hi Dauss, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Photography is absolutely a passion and I’ve been at it for most of my life, traveling wherever the art calls me. I feel like I’ve always been a photographer, having a camera in my hands passed down from my father as young as ten. I had my own darkroom in high school. There were always cameras and art around me growing up so it just makes sense. I’m an artist first, and I believe that shows through in my work, I’m where I am today because I made a commitment not to allow myself to stay complacent. I set short and long-term goals based on my strengths and hold each goal as a tangible reality the create the most efficient pathway possible. I realized with focus on my goals, and making the conscious choice every morning to move into action with integrity, intention, and strategy, was absolutely the way. I concentrate on my strengths and offload thoughts, habits, and tasks that don’t serve me or my path through to my goals. If there’s an item in business that can be done by someone more skilled, I outsource, that affords me more time and energy to devote to my strengths. I have my zone of genius, that’s what makes me unique, that’s what gets my time. Though I haven’t quite “arrived”, this mindset is what keeps me moving steadily along my path to greatness. Where I am today is a blip through my journey to reach and enrich as many lives as I can. And that feels good every day!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Challenges present themselves often, none of us are strangers to that, how we choose to manage these indubitable gems though, is what MAKES us!
Navigating through and to overcoming my most recent life obstacle is what ended up having us choosing to relocate my family and business to Austin, which has presented its own unique challenges and opportunities.
I was basically a celebrity in my former city, I grew up there, launched and grew my businesses there. I was director for a large charity event I would host each year, serving and supporting the cities displaced families, homeless, and underprivileged. I was on local news stations often covering that event and any other time professional photography was a topic. I shot portrait campaigns for news stations, had multiple billboards on the interstate and around the city, and was the campaign producer and lead photographer for the Fashion Week. My images were the covers of City Magazines in marketing materials of countless businesses and venues. My brand was everywhere! You get my drift,
Now in Austin, my name is uncommon, very few people know who I am or what I do, at least compared to what I had grown used to. I’m now getting to explore fresh new marketing avenues and networking opportunities, stretching in to completely new spaces and ways of being. Each challenge and compression in life births a new and better version of yourself and what you’re capable of producing, sharing, and impacting.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an international commercial lifestyle, editorial, and advertising photographer and director based in Austin Texas. I am a passionate and innovative entrepreneur and I absolutely love my job and everything that comes along with it, regardless of what hat I’m wearing in the moment. I love and appreciate the people I get to meet, the places I’m blessed to go, the hours I keep, and the creative planning and spontaneity in every campaign, shoot, project, and production I take on. I’m passionate about helping people realize their worth, beauty, and potential in business and life. I’m focused on high-impact marketing and branding for progressive entrepreneurs, coaches, gurus, brands, influencers, and companies, also photography/business education for other professional photographers. I’m a father of five, a reformed ice cream addict, and a timepiece collector. I’m a nerd, an artist, a drummer, and a world-traveling dreamer. When you do what you love, people love what you do, and I truly love what I do, it shines through in every image and in every business, I touch!
My work goes far beyond the scope of an ordinary photographer or educator, my creativity, enthusiasm, energy, organizational skill, and vision allow me to work at an entirely different level, taking on full creative projects from conception to delivery. Paired with my talent, I have assembled a team that consists of industry-leading, powerhouse individuals, all of which contribute highly refined skills to execute full productions from concept to project completion.
I have a way of connecting with people through calm yet vast and unassuming energy, authentic relatability, and real heart-centered action. It’s my passion, the heart of what I do
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
As technology and the social media culture continue to grow and evolve, molding screenagers and cell phone photographers into the forefront of future everything, I’ve seen an overall devaluing of photography and art all together. I believe there will always be an inherent value in what we actually do as professional photographers and artists, but the entry point is no longer a barrier in any way, everyone is an “artist”, everyone is a “photographer”, and everyone has access… and don’t et me started on AI. Attention spans are getting shorter, marketing campaigns need high-impact bite-sized pieces to drip along a longer consistent period. Things will definitely continue to change, as well as stay the same.
We don’t rise to our visions, we sink to our systems and habits.
