Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Whitmore.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The year was 2012. Freshly graduated from high school in 2011 wondering what I wanted to do with my life as I sat in my first class at a community college. I soon realized that this wasn’t the place for me and fell in love with Tomorrowland Music Festival after movies. At this point, working at a gas station (QuikTrip) I knew that video would be my future and career. Fast forward 10 years I have dove into pretty much every aspect of it from large-scale music festivals to wedding videography, all the way to large commercial work.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The path to success is never straight. Life happens, relationships happen, needs and wants always change. The early days were tough. Very late nights, and a lot of work done for free or “I owe you’s”. But in retrospect, that’s where a lot of the opportunity comes from and how you connect with other like-minded people.
Some of my biggest struggles were learning how to position myself, and how to communicate the value the other person is receiving. For example, going from “hey, I can make this for you for said rate” to “How can I serve you in the best way possible? What are your goals and ambitions and how can we strategically think about this to get you where you want to go?”
The latter in my experience, has proved to be much more of a relationship developer and helped ease some of the sales struggles when I started.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Lucid Media is a full-service video marketing agency specializing in video marketing strategy, production, and distribution.
We are most proud of being an easy-going, fun to work with bunch that delivers cutting-edge visuals and engaging stories.
We never want to sell you on anything but really help in any way that we can. At the end of the day, we want you to succeed and would love to be a part of your journey.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think the video world is so fascinating in the sense that it’s constantly changing. Of course, there is a big push for engagement and impressions which will be the key focus in the creation process. I see a world where organic UGC (User Generated Content) dominates the marketing world. It’s already happening but what we see a lot of now is an Omni-channel strategy in which you have a shoot for a campaign and those deliverables need to fit a youtube audience, social audience, and a broadcast audience.
I see this developing further into the future and more marketing/ advertising dollars going towards the quantity of deliverables vs. a lump sum being put into one piece.
