Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Schaaf and Conrad Diaz.
Hi Whitney and Conrad, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Conrad and I met five years ago working at a hair salon in Austin and became fast friends. A few months after Covid hit and businesses started to reopen, we realized it may be a good time to try and pick up a space where we could give our own salon a go. We began looking for places and planning our next move. We found the perfect spot to renovate and make our own. We brought four of our friends on board, hired a couple of new faces along the way and the rest is history. We just celebrated Saturdays Hair Co’s 1 year anniversary on August 10th, 2022
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our biggest road block was due to the supply chain shortage, everything from the salon chairs to the waiting room furniture, and wallpaper was delayed. Contractors were really hard to find and trying to keep them to finish the work they contracted for was even harder.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We specialize in lived in color and effortless cuts and styles. Our stylists have all taken many classes to continue their education and perfect their craft. You can see all of this through the work they product daily in the Salon. We believe the atmosphere we have created and our customer service sets us apart from others. When you walk into the Salon it is bright, fun and friendly. We are upscale, but laid back, and we all genuinely love working together and are all friends.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Quality over quantity. Always. It’s more important to do excellent work, have time to complete that work and feel connected to your clients than it is to treat your business and clients like a factory.
