Today we’d like to introduce you to Hailey ONeill.
Hi Hailey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
A few years ago, my personal life was a mess. I was feeling like a failure and emotional conflict ran my life. I needed to begin the self-work of personal transformation.
My first experience trying to find the right therapist was exhausting and expensive. I went to so many people before I found the right fit and was charged for every session.
When I finally found a trusted source to guide me, it improved my personal life in every way possible. I learned the tools of wellness to aid my emotional healing process. Then, I found a personal development coach and really started to feel better every day. I wanted everyone to feel this way.
I asked myself, “Why weren’t therapy classes as accessible as workout classes? Why didn’t friends discuss things they talk about in therapy at coffee shops? How do I help to create a culture of emotional awareness?”
I wanted to learn how to be there for someone struggling to manage their mental health. That’s when I created MindBar.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Yes and no – When I originally had the idea for MindBar, I had no idea it would take me 2-3 years to bring to life. The road has been so much slower than I could have imagined, but I think that is the way that it was meant to be. I’m not a therapist, I did not go to business school – I started this company because of the profound impact therapy has had on my life and how passionate I am to bring that same experience to everyone who wants to access it. Therefore, I’ve had to learn A LOT and I’ve made many mistakes…
When we originally started MindBar, my CoFounder and I were mainly doing in-person therapy classes in Austin, TX. Then, Covid happened, so we had to pivot to a virtual model. It was difficult in the moment but I believe it was meant to be because now we can access so many more folks than we originally planned – both therapists and members. Our mission is to make the tools of therapy more accessible to more people, and pivoting to an online, scalable model will enable us to do just that.
The next thing that we learned was that our live class model was inaccessible for many people’s schedules. I was getting so many emails from members asking to see recordings of the classes. We soon realized that we needed to create therapy classes that members could access anytime at their own pace. That is how this level of MindBar came about. We still have live groups and classes but we have an entire new level that is similar to a MasterClass for mental health – so there is something for everyone!
Long story short – yes, there have been many struggles, but they have all been huge learning opportunities that were meant to be; MindBar would not be what is today without each and every one of them!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
MindBar is the MasterClass of mental health – we’ve gathered the best mental health leaders under one roof to teach you the tools of therapy in one place, at your own pace, all for $14.99/mo. Members have access to mental health classes on a wide variety of topics ranging from Stress & Anxiety to Goal Setting & Manifestation, learning multiple tools from various therapists and coaches to help them along their mental health journey. If you fall in love with a teacher and want to go deeper, MindBar members can book one-on-one sessions directly through our platform. High-quality mental healthcare is expensive and confusing, MindBar is here to change that.
I started MindBar because I want to change the way people think about and access mental health care. I want mental health care to be as accessible as going to the gym – something we can work on every day if we choose and something that we’re proud to talk about. Also, something that connects us to other people! I’ve learned to be proud of my journey and the personal mental health battles I have fought through because they’ve made me who I am today – a strong and confident woman who pursues her dreams. I want everyone to be proud of their mental health journey and be able to customize it to their liking. MindBar makes mental health care cool and as affordable as a Netflix subscription!
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Tough question! I attended summer camp every summer for 13 years at a place called Camp Mystic in Hunt, TX. I started going when I was about 6 years old. I have the best memories from that experience. I still have dreams that I’m back there – it’s my happy place! Swimming in the Guadalupe River, Campfires on Tribe Hill, Richard’s coffee cake, war canoe! I will always cherish those 13 summers.
