Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Chronis.
Hi Devin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always known I wanted to get into clothing but never had the means or any idea of how to do it. Fresh out of high school, I realized I didn’t want to just sit around doing nothing with my time, so I decided to get started. I started going to the thrift store with the little money I had and slowly growing my inventory for Space Dolphin. I started listing on eBay and Depop and made my own Instagram account for my little business. Slowly but surely, my business is starting to grow into what I want it to become.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I first started listing items, the traction they were getting started out really slow and I had a lot of discouraging thoughts. With the confusing algorithms of Depop and eBay, a lot of my stuff wasn’t getting any attention whatsoever. I started to doubt myself and the potential of my business. I had invested a lot of time and money into this, and I didn’t have the luxury of failing and pretending like I never even tried to do this. However, I remained persistent and faithful in myself. I kept on looking for clothes to attract more people to my shop and I started seeing the results I wanted. Although sometimes I still have moments of doubt, I know that if I stay persistent, I can achieve this dream.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Space Dolphin Vintage?
I go to my local thrift shops and spend hours of my time looking through the racks finding vintage shirts and pants. There are endless amounts of clothes that go through thrift shops and never see the light of day. I try to give these pieces a new life and a loving home. I started with absolutely no connections and virtually no knowledge of where to find the best stuff in town. Without that knowledge or connections, it’s a lot harder to get into the world of thrifting. I handpick every piece of clothing that’s in my shop which sets me apart from most. I truly love what I’m doing here and enjoy the game of finding vintage clothes. I’m in it for the long run and will always try my hardest to offer only the best of the best on Space Dolphin.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My cheerleader, supporter, #1 fan, and amazing girlfriend has been with me since the very start of this journey. She comes along to help me every time I go to the thrift, and she’s always there to help me make decisions on what I should take. The main reason Space Dolphin is even Space Dolphin is because of her. Without her help, I don’t think I’d be writing this out right now. She’s played a huge part in bringing me the motivation to get off my butt and do my best every single day, and I couldn’t be more grateful for her.
