Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Rodriguez.
Hi Brittney, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After successfully establishing, growing and making impactful contributions community-wide through the formation of my own Public Relations firm, Grit + Pearl Public Relations, I felt a strong calling to share the highs and lows of my own entrepreneurial journey with those just beginning to dream of becoming business owners, themselves. I have always been fortunate to lean upon my own network of close family and friends in professional aspirations, but also recognize not everyone enjoys the benefit of the same support systems. My belief in the immeasurably valuable work of the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to advance and advocate on behalf of Austin’s fast-growing and impactful Latino community very much informed my interest in pursuing the opportunity to share my experiences and lessons learned with other promising business owners. The road to success looks different for everyone, but together, we’re an unstoppable force!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I believe when honestly asked, most entrepreneurs would agree the road isn’t exactly easy, but always worth every difficult moment and opportunity to rise above challenges. I think a big dose of humility has informed my approach to my own work–understanding that I won’t always know the right answer, trusting an innate knowing and instinct has contributed to most all of my professional decisions. To truly appreciate the success, I believe an entrepreneur is made all the better for persevering through moments of doubt about whether the lights can be kept on, when facing the challenges of developing a business plan, or when courageously looking ahead to opportunities for business development and growth. These kinds of defining moments allow professionals to more thoroughly lean into and further develop a moral compass which serves as guidance across more than just the professional realm. The trials and tribulations experienced by most every business owner come to define them in ways personally which affect all facets of our lives.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is Austin’s longest-serving Chamber, having contributed nearly 50 years of service to Austin’s Latino community. This service involves so much more than just focus on the “commerce” portion of our name, rather, the GAHCC serves as a proud advocate for all of Austin’s Latinos in education, advocacy, community engagement, leadership development, outreach and support, cultural competency and so much more!
Having not only survived but thrived over our last 50 years of service, I’m so excited to see what the important community work we’re passionate about engaging in continues to look like 50 more years from now. We enjoy seeing the fruits of our labor in practice daily.
What does success mean to you?
This is such a tough question–success looks so different to so many. I believe success is reflected best in feeling, an intrinsic knowing that a goal or collective of goals has been achieved, to personal satisfaction. Working in an industry where awards often serve as the best definition for success, I believe the most successful professionals lean more heavily into self-satisfaction of jobs well done and a knowing of progress in a preferred and promising path ahead.
