Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamna Vanjani.
Hi Kamna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always been a food lover and loved exploring new restaurants and places to eat. Once I got on Instagram I used to post every single time I went out for dinner. I love traveling! It’s a passion of mine and a dream to visit all the countries on my bucket list which by the way is a very very long list. So, I would post on my feed and my stories so my friends can see where I’m at and the amazing food I am eating. There came a point when my parents asked me to post posting so much because a lot of people would sort of “taunt” my parents about me traveling and being out so much. Because of that, I started my blog so no one would know it is me!! My cousin and I were one day stuck in the horrible traffic in Mumbai, and she looked at me and was like weren’t you going to start your blog and I was procrastinating and she was like no, start it now! And so she helped me come up with my name Polished Food. I love getting my nails done and so I used it in my blog where I would incorporate beautifully polished nails in my pictures. It is a hobby that I hope one day would turn into a career.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh no, it hasn’t! Firstly there is so much competition when it comes to food blogging! Everyone is doing it! So you really need to be ahead of the game when it comes to your content and style. Obtaining followers is the biggest struggle for me. I also started a couple of months before the pandemic hit and of course, I did not have much content and had to improvise and started trying out new recipes and thought this might be a good time for me to learn how to cook since I love to eat! But I’ve learnt so much!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
While blogging is a hobby for me which I hope one day it would turn out to be something more, I am a merchandiser at my family business on the Caribbean island of St.Maarten. We own a department store selling everything you can think off and I sort of landed with the role of a buyer because I always wanted to tag along with my parents on buying trips. I loved the travels and I loved finding different restaurants while on those travels. Traveling and food is what I love and what I specialize in on my blog. I keep traveling across the globe and I think that’s what sort of sets me apart from other bloggers who mostly blog within their area. And of course, I do it with polished nails!!
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Workwise- Not really! I use Instagram to find restaurants and cool food spots to try out. But for myself, yes, I use the Secret app to sort of journal and write what I am grateful for. I do follow various life coaches who help me manifest and help me become a more positive person. I do listen to some podcasts here and there including Jay Shetty but I think prayer and finding time for myself is the most important that help me get through life.
One book I really liked was The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi. I love the way she describes her art and stories, it is so real!
