Daily Inspiration: Meet Sara Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Story.

Hi Sara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story starts in Asia and ends in Texas! I am an interior designer based in NY and TX. I was born in Japan and spent my early childhood in Asia before moving to Texas. After living in my 20s in California, I moved to start my business in New York City. I have a ranch outside of Austin which I spend a lot of time. I just finished a project in Westlake in Austin- doing the interiors. It is a mix of vintage furniture —- Brazilian and Italian—- and contemporary forms and art with a bit of a 70s vibe.

My love of traveling the world provides endless inspiration, but Texas is my touchstone and where I feel at home.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Running your own business has all the ups and downs you can imagine…. However, if you truly LOVE what you do, then the adventure will inspire and be ENJOYED! I enjoy the collaborative process with my clients and all the artisans I work with on my projects.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I love to create a home for my clients. A place that will reflect their lives, interests and personalities. Finding a mix of new and old pieces to bring about atmosphere and the perfect ambiance. Bringing art into the mix is another passion of mine!

What makes you happy?
My family and friends make me very happy ….. laughing and spending time with them is always at the top of the list. I find an enormous amount of inspiration in traveling—- it is so important for my work and for my mind.

I am filled with JOY and happiness hiking the hill country of Texas. I absolutely love nature and being it. Nothing better than getting a workout outside in Texas.
