Hi Katherine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a Hispanic-American child, I always loved playing video games and I always loved watching my two older brothers playing their favorite video games. Their involvement and commentary were always so entertaining to me. It was like my own personalized after-school television program. I felt so involved even though, I was just watching. Years later, when Twitch and Youtube became more popular, I fell in love with watching other people play their favorite games. Watching Twitch Streamers and YouTubers streaming their favorite video games and having so much joy interacting with the gameplay and with their viewers made me so happy to watch and I loved how streamers were building a community with their brand.
Growing up, I did not have many friends. I spent most of my time watching anime, reading books, watching movies, and playing video games. I also spent a lot of time watching Youtube and Twitch. I loved the idea of making friends online with the share common of video games. Twitch seemed like the perfect outlet for myself. I got to stream live gameplays and make friends along the way. I never knew I would become like other successful streamers and build a community of my own.
I make sure my community is welcoming to all and it’s a safe place as well. My favorite thing about streaming is how each channel and each streamer is different. My brand is wholesome, cozy, and feminine. I stream a lot of fps, RPGs, simulators, and podcasting with another fellow streamer.
Twitch has changed my life and I’ve grown as a person from it as well. Every step, every risk may be scary when following your dream, but you grow every time as a person when you take that chance take that leap. You never know where it will take you nor will you know who you will meet.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Many problems I had to face was racism, cyber-bullying, imposter syndrome, and most of all, burn-out. Being Latina, my culture has made me strong to keep pursuing my dream and not let anyone break me down to give up. It gets hards at times, but I know it is all worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
When I started my Twitch channel, I had no idea how big it could become. I played games I actually enjoyed, I got to meet and play with new friends online, and the viewers enjoyed my reactions and commentary. It was a great hobby I fell in love with. After a short while, I became obsessed with my twitch channel and started to take it more seriously. As a marketing major at my university, I decided to take what I’ve learned to grow my social media platforms.
I started to network every day. I started to create content on TikTok, Discord, Twitter, Youtube, and Instagram so I can bring followers from those platforms towards my Twitch Channel. TikTok was my biggest platform to growing my Twitch channel. I started posting 3 TikTok videos a day for at least 3 months straight. Twitter, Instagram, and Discord was my outlet to connect with my community more personally and to also post updates on my streaming schedule. I used Youtube to create short clips of my streams. It felt like a 24/7, passionate job! I love every second of it, and I have never been happier creating this content. With a small community, I still felt like I was living the dream! Nothing made me happier than letting myself become creative in various ways and building a community which felt more like life time friendship than anything!
However, I am most proud of my dedication towards streaming content. It was easy when I was doing what I loved. Content creation and social media digital marketing is a great passion of mine. I hope to always work in exactly that rest of my life.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Doing what you love and it will never feel like work. I hope, in my own definition, to become successful in my career living a comfortable, secure lifestyle of joy and love while living in Austin with my partner with my dogs. I hope to always create content and stream my video-game plays, create more content on Youtube, and live my life to the fullest.
