Daily Inspiration: Meet Cris Perea

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cris Perea.

Hi Cris, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Latina, wife, mother, and sister Born in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua, minutes away the border of El Paso, Texas. As a child, I was fascinated with anything that had to do with beauty and fashion, inspired by both cultures. I loved it so much that my mother enrolled me in a cosmetology school after graduating from high school in 1992. I started by learning how to cut and color hair. Occasionally, I would get clients who would let me express my creativity and do something personalized. Once I became a mother, I would practice on my own children until they got older. In 2003, life brought me to Austin, Texas where I earned my first dollars cutting children’s hair. Over the years, I have been working in restaurants, sales, and real estate. I watched my children become adults and begin their own journeys. Around that time, I realized that it was time to return to what I loved most: beauty, fashion, and work for myself.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I had a few challenges pursuing my career. Being a single parent affected the amount of time I was able to put into my career. I also knew that I needed to work extremely hard to be able to provide financially for my family. I was unable to take courses because my kids needed their mother. The most difficult challenge I had to overcome was the language barrier and not being able to communicate efficiently.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have taken more than eighteen beauty courses, among them wedding makeup, photography makeup, artistic makeup, hairstyle, fibroblast facials, eyelash extensions and more. Now as an entrepreneur, I have launched my very own store, Bestie Beauticc, with my friend/partner Claudia Lopez. We specialize in plus-size event dresses, beauty cosmetics and personal care.

What matters most to you? Why?
For starters, what matters the most is family. They motivate me to be a better version of myself and become the person they look up to. It brings me joy to be able to show them that when you focus and you believe in yourself, you can accomplish great things. I want to be able to guide them during their hard times and be able to provide them with tools will that help them in the future. Showing them that you can always count on your family and feel secure.
