Today we’d like to introduce you to Donald Davis.
Hi Donald, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started working in Pro Wrestling in 2009 for Anarchy Championship Wrestling, a promotion running in San Antonio/Austin, TX. We were an Austin mainstay for many years. We ran a monthly show at The Mohawk, and appeared regularly at FunFunFun Fest. Over the years, I rose from ring crew, to referee, to operating partner. I branched out to other promotions in Texas, like Heavy Metal Wrestling in San Antonio. In 2014 I met my future wife, Ashley. She was a referee as well. We married and had a baby in 2016. Altogether we have 5 children. Haley (21), Amethyst (19), Amanda (17), Nikolas (16) and Donald IV aka Junior (5). Our older children are from before we met. The whole family was involved in ACW from the moment they arrived, but after the baby was born we took a step back. Of course, the pandemic put live entertainment on hold, but as things started to get back to normal we decided that we wanted to get back involved in pro wrestling. We created INFAMOUS Wrestling, named after a friend of ours, “The Infamous” Shawn Vexx, who passed away about a year before we started the company. Our goal is to continue the spirit and tradition of Texas Professional Wrestling. To showcase the top talent in our area, and to provide a place for the up-and-comers to gain experience from that talent. Overall its been a great experience for our family. Everyone does their part to help. At home, we host the out-of-town wrestlers and cook breakfast in the morning for everyone. Ashley and Amethyst help to run the ticket booth/merch stand. Nikolas and Amanda have been “paying dues” as part of the ring crew, and have recently begun training to referee; and Junior makes sure to spend every available moment hopping around in the ring before the show starts.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been some challenges along the way. Finding a venue is never easy, but we’ve been fortunate to cultivate relationships with local businesses like Blackfeather Vintage Works, Greenheart Graphics and Come and Take it Live! One thing about pro wrestling, “Card Subject to Change” you have to be prepared to make changes on the fly. One thing about this venture is, when it’s over Ashley and I want to look back on this time as a time we had fun, not a time we were stressed. We try our hardest to draw on past experience to help steer the ship.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
INFAMOUS Wrestling was created in 2022. We are a Professional Wrestling Organization based out of Austin, TX. We are a new promotion, but our team has worked in the Texas Professional Wrestling Community for over a decade in past promotions like ACW and HMW. Our goal is to shine a light on Texas Wrestling. We want to present a traditional pro wresting experience, while moving forward. Our matches feature traditional pro wrestling rules, but we also feature non-traditional matches, like deathmatches, when the time calls for it. We don’t have separate divisions, we want to see the best wrestle the best, regardless of weight class or gender. Overall we want our shows to be fun. We want our fans cheering and booing, heckling and chanting, up on their feet, even up close to the ring, pounding on the mat. Our shows are all recorded and available on demand through independentwrestling.tv, and we have a semi-monthly web series on YouTube. We’ve recently been working with Spotlight Karaoke in Cedar Park to host Karaoke parties after the show.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Collective Experience, Spirit of collaboration, Family Environment, passion for the business.
