Meet Alvaro and Russel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alvaro and Russel.

Hi Alvaro and Russel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We started this Airbnb in the first house we bought when we moved to Austin. It is a special place for us and we thought others would enjoy it too!

Russel, my husband and I remodeled this house from the ground up. It is filled with light and beautiful energy and we love to share it with other who are visiting Austin, or just using it as a staycation.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We are still learning. In the beginning, we were doing laundry every day and not giving enough explanations to the house. But slowly we have been figuring out how to run a successful Airbnb while also respecting the residential neighborhood we are in.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Russel is an entrepreneur. He is opening his second restaurant in Austin Bee Cave in the spring of 2023. Chicknic will be a fast casual takeout and delivery restaurant focusing on roast chicken and healthy – wholesome sides for the entire family. We are bringing high-quality food to the suburbs!

Alvaro works in tech. He is a director of products at Procore Technologies.

We love starting businesses and projects. We love to be busy and create. The Airbnb and the restaurant are our most important projects.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Patience and consistency pay off. The route to success is bumpy but it requires grit and persistence. We struggle sometimes but love what we do so we stick to it.
