Today we’d like to introduce you to Fawn Young.
Hi Fawn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My life hasn’t been an easy one. In the past, I witnessed and was a victim of domestic violence. I persevered and overcame that part of my life as I got older. A few years ago, I became an advocate for domestic violence victims and survivors. Most of my healing took place during that time. A year ago, I decided it was time for a change. So, I broke out an old story of mine, learned how to become a self-publisher, and began writing books. I published a total of nine in all. I wrote seven children’s chapter books, a novel (thriller/horror for adults), and a fun book. The last book that I published is my favorite! I built an activity journal. It’s a book for adults, teens, and tweens to jot down their feelings, thoughts, and dreams. I added plenty of pages for journaling. The book also includes games, exercises, empowerment messages, self-care tips, and more! It’s just a fun book that should be kept with positive thoughts. That way, when the person is feeling down, they can look back and reflect on good times. This exercise will help to retrain the brain into thinking more positively overall. After all, I’ve been through, I feel it’s essential to help support others emotionally. I also teach others how to self-publish books for free. The biggest blessings in my life are my husband, our family, and our animals! I never would have dreamt that my life would turn out as unique as it is; however, I’m incredibly grateful that it has.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The most challenging obstacle that I had to overcome was domestic violence. It has taken years of therapy and dedication to healing as much as I have. It wasn’t very comforting when I began publishing my books. I struggled with an old tape playing in my brain telling me that I wasn’t good enough to be an author or anything else for that matter. I had to ignore, feel the fear, and do it anyway. “Sink or swim,” as I like to call it. I guess this is pretty common, though, in most authors. So that comforted me, knowing I wasn’t alone in feeling that way. I look back at my books now and smile. I’m proud of the person I’m becoming and look forward to the future.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
All of my books are available on Amazon: “The Legend of the Old Man”, https://a.co/d/7mqmJQY, “The Bird Pin” https://a.co/d/5E643oq, “The Golden Locket’s Owners” https://a.co/d/fMcjjCq, “Into the Crying Woods” https://a.co/d/6cWoPkd, “Donkey Rodeo” https://a.co/d/6cWoPkd, “Mr. Wiggles and Woo-woo” https://a.co/d/fLvvxT3, “Unearthly Abandoned” https://a.co/d/fLvvxT3, “The Wondrous Intention” https://a.co/d/5WxFCUv, and “Living Your Best Possible Life Through Journaling” https://a.co/d/9yKCX5z. I’m kind of all over the map when I write; I’m currently working on a book about subtle signs of domestic violence, signs that victims may not pick up on. And if there’s no physical violence happening within the relationship, then the victim may not even realize that they are being abused. This book will teach them what signs to look out for. I am planning on adding ways to seek help and how to begin the healing process once they’re on the other side of violence. I’m always advocating for victims and survivors. That is my passion: empowering others so they can begin to enjoy living their lives fully as well.
Who else deserves credit for your story?
My husband and sons have been my most significant form of support. They believed in me before I had any belief in myself when I began to self-publish. Honestly, I may have never published any of my books if it hadn’t been for my husband’s gentle coaxing.
