Today we’d like to introduce you to Imiya Bias.
Hi Imiya, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From the age of 8, I knew I was meant to be an entrepreneur, I have memories of selling bracelets to my mom’s friends for $1. But I would never imagine it would evolve into what it is today. In 2018 while I was home from college for winter break, I remember scrolling through Instagram, and seeing pictures on my explore page of eyelash extensions (which weren’t popular back then). I quickly drew interest and wanted to learn how I could do this beauty service. I asked my mom for $100 to get started and she quickly told me no. I then realized I had my last $40 and I ran to Amazon and ordered what I could and began to teach myself because I could not afford a course at that time. Shortly after I began to take “clients” on my college campus at Alcorn State University, and quickly over the years became known as “The Campus Lash Tech”. I would have 4/5 clients a day. Fast forward to now in 2022, and my business has completely flourished in Dallas. From having celebrities, stylists, social media influencer clients, and now selling my own lash products for other lash techs like myself. I am just extremely grateful to be where I am today. I started my business with the last $40 I had and touched my first 10K in 2021. God has truly favored me over these past few years and I am so grateful for this opportunity and blessed to be where I am. I had a vision no one else could see but me and I brought it to life. I now inspire other young women and conduct my own Lash Courses in Dallas Tx.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My biggest challenge was having my loved ones believe in me. In an African American household, you are forced to believe that you have to obtain a degree and work a 9-5 in order to survive. I remember telling my mom “I want to do lashes and be a mentor for other girls like me” and she quickly told me “Make sure you get your degree first before anything”. I feel like my aspirations would never be taken seriously until I showed her I meant business. It was hard gaining her support over the years. I would tell her ideas and be brushed off, but I knew what I was working towards would be big. I started doing lashes in our small apartment kitchen until I finally moved into a beauty bar where my clientele increased rapidly. It wasn’t until I moved to Dallas that she started to notice that I was on to something. LOL, after almost 3/4 years she finally saw I meant business.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Minx Lab Collection?
I founded The Minx Lab Collection in 2019. I am a licensed lash technician, who specializes in Voluminous lash sets. I am known for the neatness and precision in my work. My lash sets are voluminous and dark; people often ask me “How do you get your lash sets so neat and dark?” What sets me apart from others is my passion and drive, I’ve been in this industry since 2018 and I feel rewarded when I give my client a mirror and her face lights up with a smile because she realizes how beautiful she is. That is my superpower and my purpose, if I can enhance a woman’s beauty I am fulfilled. Along with this I am known for my social media presence of being a motivator and inspiring others , I feel like if we are given a platform why not use it to inspire others all over the world. If I can not inspire, motivate and push what is all this for? I am proud of myself for reaching thousands of girls like myself from rural areas who like me are trying to break generational curses and normalize being an entrepreneur. I want younger women to know working a 9-5 is not the only option, if you want something and you are passionate about it; Write it down, manifest it, work towards it & let yourself have it!
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
To the young girls out there who have a dream, NEVER STOP DREAMING, you only get one life, one chance, one moment, use it. You owe it to yourself, and to the woman you will become in the future. If you never try, how can you know if you will succeed?
