Life & Work with DeAyrra Greene

Today we’d like to introduce you to DeAyrra Greene.

Hi DeAyrra; please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am originally from Richmond, Virginia, and throughout my lifetime, I have always been creative and enjoyed art in every form. I started school as a Math major but switched to a few different art forms. When I transferred schools, I decided to go a more practical route so I could create in my spare time. Before the pandemic, I was in school full-time and working two jobs. I knew I wanted to start a business, but I needed to figure out where to start since I am talented In many areas. I started a chapstick and lip gloss collection to get my feet wet, which was cool, but I wasn’t passionate about it. One night, I decided to buy a Cricut machine and supplies to go with it, which led to my next venture. I began making custom items, including t-shirts, aprons, cups and mugs, umbrellas, etc. This took off for me, and I could quit both jobs and support myself. This continued for about a year until I graduated with a dual degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. After graduation, there were issues with my living arrangements, and I no longer had the space to create custom items, so I closed it down. I secured a job in my field shortly after and was told I would have to move to Austin, Texas, for work. So I needed a business idea that would only take up a little space for my living arrangements. I came up with creating greeting cards for all occasions. I draw all of the designs, which allows me to be creative. This was a hit in my hometown, but it has been hard getting exposure to them lately. Greeting cards are still available on my website TheEraExchange.com, but I am working on a few other things to release for this year. In addition to that, I started content creation on TikTok, and I am working hard to expand across all platforms.

You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. It was very stressful when I quit my job to pursue my business because there was so much uncertainty. When my living arrangements changed, it caused a lot of turmoil, but I knew I had to figure out something new. My biggest struggle is staying on track with one idea. I am creative at heart and like to do many different things. I still go back and forth on ideas, and it’s hard to decide what to do next.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently, I work as a project coordinator for a major tech company. This is my first career since graduating from college. My goal is to work towards a career in Data Analytics. It is still early in my career, so I secured a job in my field so soon after graduating. My work ethic, drive to improve, and determination to learn new things set me apart. I love working in tech and watching myself progress in my career.

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future vary daily, but I’m looking forward to rebranding my business to reflect who I am today. Almost everything I have done business-wise has been safe financially; the next Item I plan to create and sell will have a higher risk for me. I plan to add art prints and original pieces to my website. I also plan to contact more companies to collaborate for my content creation. I want The Era Exchange to be a household name in the future, and I am constantly working on my plan for that.
