Today, we’d like to introduce you to Adela Casey. Adela was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Angela Alvarez.
Hi Adela, we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
My journey begins as a little girl immigrating to the U.S. from Mexico with my parents and siblings. I still remember the day my dad gave me the talk. “We don’t belong here anymore we are moving”. I remember moving in with my Aunt and Uncle and getting registered in elementary school. My aunt leaving me in the office asking “are you gonna be ok” to which I answered yes. First grade for me was far more difficult than your average child. I spoke not a word of English with an English speaking teacher. I remember sitting in a corner listening to books being read to me in English. By the 3rd Grade I was fluent not perfectly but could translate for my parents. I navigated my way through high school until I became pregnant with my first child Elijah at the age of 16. For me this was a huge eye opener. What was I going to do? Regardless, as strong minded as my father raised me I was determined. Determined to be somebody in life and graduate high school. Determined to silence all of those who would make comments like “you’re less likely to graduate high school with a child. My high school provided child care for me and guided me in the right direction to provide my child the best care. Along with parenting classes I went to a learning center next door to my baby’s daycare. Many days I remember sitting at a computer finishing credits with my baby in his car seat next to me. I did it! I graduated high school a bit early. Now what? What was my next move? I remembered a comment my teacher made “Whatever it is you want to do go for it! Focus on that goal and don’t let anything stop you!” In 2009 I enrolled myself in beauty school and graduated with a 1 year old! I became a Licensed cosmetologist. As I explored the beauty industry doing bridal hair an makeup I landed my first job as an Assistant Manger at SportClips. I realized as afraid as I was of doing mens fades all day I really enjoyed it! This company was like no other and treated me like family. As the years went by I met and married my husband Christopher. He was military in the Army. I began my journey with him along with my son. Both in our twenties navigating through life. We are the true definition of starting from the bottom with nothing to our name. In 2011 we had our first child Gianni after Chris was stationed in Japan and I awaited him close to our loved ones in San Antonio Tx. My husband enrolled himself in college as I continued to do hair. He graduated with a Master’s Degree in business. At this point he turned to me and said “it’s your turn.” I was terrified, I did not believe I had the opportunity to attend college let alone be smart enough to graduate! College was tough! We received a diagnosis of ADHD for Gianni and I quickly had to learn to advocate for my son! I worked full time with SportClips while in college full time with two children. I was exhausted! In 2017 I graduate with a Bachelors in business administration- concentration in management with a 3.9 GPA It was worth all the tears and sleepless nights! Not only that I had the honor to be the first of my fathers children to go to college and graduate! He was so proud! In 2020 two weeks before the pandemic began Christopher and I welcomed our 3rd son Amari. I became a stay at home mom to teach my boys for 2 years due to the pandemic. It was then i realized something was a little different about Amari. Our happy beautiful baby received a diagnosis of Autism. I was terrified… no one wanted to believe his diagnosis. As strong of a mom that he has I began my research on how to help my baby boy. Today he attends ABA therapy full time and our baby is thriving! In 2021 Christopher and I built our home in San Antonio. That is when I began my journey as a store Manager of a SportClips in the Stone Oak area. This is the location I began working at back in 2010. The Owners Cristina and Greg James have been amazing to work with! It was a this point and time I decided to hire Angela to help clean my home! As a mother of 3 boys 2 special needs and working a full time job as I manage a team of lovely employees I rarely have free time. I enjoy a clean home and hiring Angela has been the best decision! I can now spend my free time with my babies rather than cleaning my home.
Let’s talk about your work and career – what else should we know?
I am the Manager of a SportClips, I currently manage a team of 9 employees. We specialize in men and boys hair in a relaxing sports environment. I have had the honor to gain experience in management as my degree concentration is in business management. I have learned so much in the past few months! For example getting to know my team on a personal level in order to learn to better work with them. What sets us apart from the rest? Our kind and friendly environment. Our team truly cares for one another and our clients can feel this when they walk into our store. Our too priority is our clients, my team pays special attention to each and every client. We listen to their needs to better serve them on a daily basis.
So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by Inside Out Cleaning & Lawns and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Inside Out Cleaning & Lawns.
I met Angela through my sister. One day as we had dinner I mentioned the stress my messy home was causing due to my busy schedule. I mentioned wanting to hire a housekeeper. She quickly suggested Angela! We began with a deep clean of my home and then biweekly visits. Angela has been a joy to be around, very sweet and kind. Not only is she someone with a big heart but the attention to detail is amazing! If it wasn’t for her I highly doubt I would be able to keep my job. Maintaining a clean home is one of my top priorities for my boys. When Angela is in my home while I am at work I wholeheartedly trust that my home will be spotless when I come home. She takes a load of stress off my back and I suggest her work to my clients very often! Angela is a family oriented, loving, organized housekeeper! She puts her heart into her work and it shows! We love her!
