Community Highlights: Meet Michelle Gonzales of CF Consulting & Marketing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Gonzales. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Colonial Farms was born from the love of everything farming! Growing our food not only provides for our family and us, but it provides for our community. Michelle and her husband are big believers in harvesting your land and using that land to provide for and nurture your family and relying on yourself! It is so rewarding when you put all the hard work, sweat, sometimes tears, and love into your crops and watch the growth and reward of an abundance of beautiful, healthy crops! This love of farming not only benefits us, but it benefits our community and shows our support! Besides inspiring to be a farmer, Michelle owns another business, CF Consulting & Marketing. Michelle is a Business Consultant and Marketer. Michelle has gained years of experience in the business world, including time with corporate companies and experience in the world of Development, General Contracting, and Project Management. Michelle has the expertise, skills, and desire to help you structure your business for growth and success.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life as an entrepreneur is tough. It takes a lot of determination, focus, and ambition. Because of the state that our economy is in, money is tight. Not only do we as individuals and families have to deal with the increased pricing on everything, making the cost of living take up our entire paychecks, but businesses are facing the same struggles. Despite many companies needing the help of a business consultant and marketer, they simply cannot afford the help. We also face similar struggles as farmers, with demand being much higher than our yields. With extra freezes this year, our crops look sad and aren’t producing as much as they should. But because consumers are becoming increasingly health conscious, trying to understand and consider where their food comes from, the demand for farm-to-table has been higher than ever. This is great for us as farmers and ranchers, especially since developers have been taking away more and more of our land. However, we need help to keep up with the demand. We are having issues keeping up with demand because we are seeing fewer and fewer farmers and ranchers in certain parts of the country due to overdevelopment. If we keep up on this route, farmers and ranchers will be a thing of the past, sooner rather than later.

This program is great for those who want to keep things in-house and grow their company.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was a pain in the ass growing up! I have always been full of energy, sassy as all get out, OCD, and not afraid to speak my mind. My mom always said I was much older mentally than I was physically, which holds true today. I am what you would call an old soul.

Growing up, I wasn’t much of a sports person but loved photography and dance. Things that I still do today! I do photography (nature, landscapes, and wildlife) and dance more for myself now than competitively. I still love dancing competitively but don’t get to as much as I would like now that I am running a business and focusing on getting the farm where I want it. I started dancing when I was 8 years old in ballet, jazz, contemporary, and hip hop. 10 years later, I switched to ballroom and have been doing it on and off ever since (now 12 years later). When I started doing photography, I started off doing portraits. I worked for JCP Portraits for about a year and then I branched off and started my own portrait business doing strictly outdoor portrait photography. I did that for a couple of years and realized I would rather photograph nature, landscapes, and wildlife for myself. You can see some of my current work at https://www.cfarmstx.com/the-gardeners-portfolio. I did fall in love with golf as I got older. In fact, I am part of the LPGA Amateurs community! I am an avid traveler (a licensed travel agent) and view the world through my camera lens.
