Exploring Life & Business with Kathy Blair of Envision Organizing LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Blair.

Hi Kathy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Thanks so much for having me!  was born in San Antonio and have called Austin home since 2004. My degree is in social work, and I worked in that field until my first kiddo was born in 2000. In 2015 my kids transitioned from full-time homeschooling (believe me, I never saw that one coming) to a part-time school. For the first time in several years, I had time to dream about how I could contribute to our income. I wanted to find a job doing something I loved while still having the flexibility to help care for our young family. In the past, several friends had encouraged me to take my love of organizing to the next level.  I did some research and found NAPO (The National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals).   I jumped in with both feet and opened Envision Organizing in 2015.  I haven’t looked back!  I quickly became involved with NAPO, including the local Austin chapter.  I earned my CPO® (Certified Professional Organizer®) credential in 2020. I’m serving my third term as the NAPO Austin President and will be stepping into the Immediate Past President role in May of 2023.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There was definitely a steep learning curve to starting my own business. I love people and I love organizing, but there are things about running a business that are challenging for me.  Bookkeeping being one of them.  I am learning and growing in this area all the time and am grateful to say that last year I hired a CPA to help me with this part of my business moving forward.
As you know, we’re big fans of Envision Organizing LLC. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with the brand?
I am a Certified Professional Organizer® that specializes in residential organizing. I believe that order in one’s outer environment leads to inner calm and focus, and I love sharing that feeling of peace with my clients. I have an amazing mixture of clients! Some who are actually more organized than me and just need hands-on help implementing their plans. Some who have trouble making headway on their own, especially when it comes to making decisions about what to keep or what to donate. I also have clients that are just stuck because life is hard and there are so many demands on their time and energy. I love seeing past the clutter and envisioning what their space can be. I am very involved with my local NAPO Austin Chapter and learn so much from my fellow Austin (and beyond) organizers. I am extremely proud of my CPO® certification and am continually learning new things.  I love my job and do my best to make the decluttering and organizing process as pleasant as possible.  Thank you so much for reaching out to me and letting me share about Envision Organizing!

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Treating people how I want treated has been valuable as I set my business practices. Listening to people goes a long way in building relationships.
