Today we’d like to introduce you to Noah Morales.
Hi Noah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey toward becoming an aerial photographer began during my Sophomore year of high school. I enrolled in a course titled “Principles of Aviation and Aerospace.” As the name suggests, I began learning the foundations of aviation laws. I continued to follow this Program of Study in the second-year class, Drone Aviation. In this course, the goal is for students to earn their FAA Part 107 Certificate – a license allowing remote drone pilots to fly commercially. I earned my license after studying for numerous hours, passing the exam with a score of 97 – a higher score than my school instructor. I’m a freelance drone pilot seeking opportunities to build my portfolio, hoping to one day create a career using drones.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
The biggest struggle I’ve encountered so far has to be either earning my Part 107 Certificate or finding funds for my equipment. I spent a few months studying for the test material for my exam before I felt confident. While this was a large time investment, buying a drone and all of the proper equipment quickly became a large financial investment. I needed to purchase a drone, decide which kind of controller I wanted to use, buy enough storage for my footage, and invest in various filters and lenses to capture my creative visions perfectly.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At the time of partaking in this interview, I mainly focus on creating short videos highlighting areas I visit. I search for areas with a nice landscape or architecture. My favorite project I’ve worked on is filming the process of creating Austin FC’s most recent tifo, designed by local artist Fabian Rey. In the future, I plan to expand into real estate photography, event filming, and possibly even filmmaking.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Regarding my success, the most important trait I have is dedication. I’m committed to creating a stable career out of my work. I must stay consistent, grow my portfolio, and get my name out to the world to achieve this. I’m constantly seeking new opportunities to film and learn from others in this industry.
