Check Out Cannon Brand’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cannon Brand.

Hi Cannon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started learning guitar at the age of 7 and started playing around with singing and writing at around 13-14. I played in several rock bands with my friends during that time. I started moving to the countryside of things at about 15. I played for free every week at many downtown Conroe venues. Eventually, I got the opportunity to open for many Texas legends at places like Dosey Doe in the Woodlands, Pacific Yard House in Conroe, and Main Street Crossing in Tomball. I released my first EP when I was 16, on which I recorded all the instruments. I got a band together and started headlining some shows and spreading out. A lot has happened since then! We just released my first full-length LP in March and currently have a top 20 single in Texas with “Wine, Beer, and Whiskey. This is our first year of touring across Texas; it’s been crazy and fun.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Man, it’s been challenging. Trying to be a musician for a living is a costly undertaking! Haha. It’s the most stressful but rewarding career path with many ups and downs, financial struggles, and trying to spread out to new markets and get booked. That being said, I always felt like there was one more door opening all the time, and that kept me moving forward. This year’s hardest part has been getting band members to all the out-of-town shows. It’s a group effort, and everyone has a life outside of music. We’ve been doing alright, though!

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I’m known to make the country that even non-country fans like. I incorporate a lot of different influences into my music, making for a diverse sound that many people can get behind. There’s still plenty of rock influence in several of my songs. I would say recently I’m the proudest of our song “Wine, Beer, and Whiskey.” It’s a rocking jam. We also made a great music video for it, and it’s been our best-performing single on Texas radio so far!

Do you have any advice for those just starting?
Man, get a band early! Find friends and people who love the same things you do. You need a dedicated team around you, just like any business. That being said, don’t get a band too early. Build your brand by yourself first until you can afford a band! You have to treat your band members well. There are many things in this business you can’t do without them. And write! Write all you can; write down every idea that pops into your head. You’ll write many bad songs before you start writing some good ones.
